Avatar the Last Airbender is a 3 Book series about an Airbender named Aang. He turns out to be the Avatar and the only hope for the world. To save the world he must learn all 4 elements (water, earth, fire, and air) and unlock his Avatar state. With the help of his friends, Katara and Sokka, Aang begins his journey to become the Avatar he was meant to be.
Katara opens the first Episode with this statement:
“Water. Earth. Fire. Air. My grandmother used to tell me stories about the old days, a time of peace when the Avatar kept balance between the Water Tribes, Earth Kingdom, Fire Nation, and Air Nomads. But that all changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Only the Avatar mastered all four elements. Only he could stop the ruthless firebenders. But when the world needed him most, he vanished. A hundred years have passed and the Fire Nation is nearing victory in the War. Two years ago, my father and the men of my tribe journeyed to the Earth Kingdom to help fight against the Fire Nation, leaving me and my brother to look after our tribe. Some people believe that the Avatar was never reborn into the Air Nomads, and that the cycle is broken. But I haven’t lost hope. I still believe that somehow, the Avatar will return to save the world.”
All other episodes open with Katara stating:
“Water. Earth. Fire. Air. Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Only the Avatar, master of all four elements, could stop them, but when the world needed him most, he vanished. A hundred years passed and my brother and I discovered the new Avatar, an airbender named Aang. And although his airbending skills are great, he has a lot to learn before he’s ready to save anyone. But I believe Aang can save the world.”
This is one of my favorite television series. I have each Book series on DVD and watch them often.
Water is my Favorite element (probably because I am an Aquarius) but more than likely because I love what water benders can do. Not only can they use what ever water is available (Sweat, trees, flowers, etc.) But they can also heal and help. They are warriors with a heart and most accepting to change. Uncle Iroh explains this to Zuko in Book 2 Episode 9 – Bitter Work.
There are so many awesome lessons and morals displayed in this TV series, which makes it well worth the watch for any age. In fact, I had my parents watch Book 1 Episode 1 just to see what they thought and we ended up watch the whole TV series in a week. Best week ever. LOL
