Princess Palace Pets Coloring Page of Truffles

Disney has added another animal to the Princess Palace Pets line up, this time featuring a cute little piglet named Truffles. Anyone else think that is an adorable name for a little pig? Although we may never see this little girl searching for truffles, it would be a task that inolves too much dirt for a character that loves to stay clean. Truffles is the newest addition to Rapunzel’s animal collection. Learn more about her below and grab the free coloring page I created featuring Truffles.

Truffles Princess Palace Pet Coloring Page SKGaleana image

With her charming fragrance and her perfectly styled hair, Truffles is definitely a one-of-a-kind Piglet. She doesn’t like getting dirty, but when Rapunzel encourages her to really let go, she starts running across the meadow, and no one can catch her – she’s definitely the fastest of all the pigs in the entire kingdom!

Looks: Prim and Proper
Loves: Nice Fragrances, Being Clean and Running Fast

How Rapunzel found Truffles:
Rapunzel loves visiting the village farms feeding the animals but when she bumped into Truffles she couldn’t believe her eyes. Inside the pen, all but Truffles, who was in a corner sniffing some flowers and looking exceptionally prim and proper.

When she noticed Rapunzel, the piglet ran toward her at incredible speed – she really wanted to take a closer look. Rapunzel couldn’t resist, and she took the piglet home. The castle coziness suits Truffles perfectly, but the princess is working hard to make her understand that sometimes getting dirty is fun, too.

When Gru wanted them to deliver cookies first she insisted that they had to attend ballet practice. Gru could not convince her otherwise.

The Colors of Suffrage for Women’s Equality Day

It is hard to believe that 95 years ago, on August 26, 1920, Women received the right to vote. Actually let me revise that, after a fierce battle, protests and a lot of indignity, Women fought for and earned the right to vote. We are no longer treated like second-class citizens, but are given the same privileges that a man is given in the United States of America. With this being a Campaign year for a new president, it is important to remember that these rights and privileges did not just pop out of the dirt like flowers on a spring day. No, The dirt had to be soften, sifted, patted and watered for the seed of Women’s Equality to grow. It was a long fight and one that didn’t end well for many women on that battle ground.

#WomensEqualityDay Suffragette

The importance of the battle for Women’s Equality can be found in the new movie Suffragette being released October 23. It is a drama about women who were willing to lose everything in their fight for equality in early-20th-century Britain, including their jobs, their homes, their children, and even their lives. Although this film takes place in Britain, it can be compared to what women in the US had to go through to get our rights to vote as well. Without these brave and determined women willing to make the ultimate sacrifices, women today may still have been second-class citizens.

Watch the trailer below and catch a sneak peek into the world of Suffragettes.

In honor of such sacrifices, I invite you to join me tomorrow, Aug 26, 2015 and share the significance of Women’s Equality Day (#WomensEqualityDay) and the all new movie Suffragette (#Sufragette) by wearing the colors of suffrage – purple, for dignity and ability, green for hope, and white for purity. Share the colors and celebrate the 95th Anniversary of 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote back in 1920.

95th anniversary votes for women

While kids may not be able to watch the Suffragette trailer (it is pretty intense) or watch the upcoming movie, they can still learn a little history using the printable fact sheet above. You could also play “Sister Suffragette” from Walt Disney’s Mary Poppins where she sings about Women’s Equality. Mrs. Banks sums up the events and protests pretty well in her fun upbeat song. #VotesforWomen

Now go forth tomorrow wearing Purple, Green and White!

Free Princess Palace Pets Coloring Page of Nyle

Meet Nyle the monkey, one of the newest Princess Palace Pets. I have to admit, after watching Aladdin, I wondered when they would create a friend for Abu. A monkey had to be created, at least in my mind it was inevitable. Unlike Abu, Nyle is a little more unorthodox when it comes to color. Like most palace pets, Nyle sports colors that one may not find in natural settings. I am not sure where anyone can find a teal and greens monkey, but the colors add to the palace pet cuteness and they match Jasmine’s color scheme.

Learn more about Nyle below and discover how Jasmine found him. Also grab the free coloring page featuring Nyle the Monkey that I created. Kids and adults will love to color Nyle with their favorite colors and display their cute trouble making Monkey art.

Nyle Princess Palace Pet Coloring Page SKGaleana image

A naughty Monkey with a big heart: That’s Nyle, Jasmine’s favorite rascal. He loves pranks, but when he feels loved, he can become the most loyal of friends. His favorite pastimes are hanging by his tail from the trees and looking at the bright colors of the spices and the market – so much fun.

Looks: Dynamic
Loves: Spices, pranks and hanging from trees

How Jasmine found Nyle:
Jasmine was buying spices with Aladdin when a little blue monkey jumped out of a vase and started blowing raspberries at Abu. The two monkeys started chasing each other, but Abu got tired and perched on Aladdin’s shoulder.

Nyle tried unsuccessfully to call him back with more raspberries, then climbed up a tree, looking sad. Jasmine realized that he behaved so naughtily because he felt alone and was looking for a friend, so she took him to the Palace. Now Abu and Nyle are great friends! They love playing funny pranks on the Sultan and then running away – luckily he likes them a lot!

Nyle is a teal monkey with mint green tail, face, hands, feet and ears. He wears a gold tiara and necklace embellished with a beautiful jewel. He also wears a yellow bow.

Inside Out Joy Emotion Food Art

Photo from http://family.disney.com/recipe/joy-food-art

Photo from http://family.disney.com/recipe/joy-food-art

Help the little ones take the lead this back-to-school season with delicious and fun snacks. Bring a little “Joy” into the mix with fun food art featuring the leader of Riley’s emotions from Disney’s new movie, Inside Out. Joy may be tiny enough to fit inside Riley’s mind but she is a big part of her happiness and she can be a part of our happiness with this delicious recipe. Trust me, the tummies will thank you and the smiles will show.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This recipe is found on family.disney.com. It takes a little prep work before it can be created, especially if the little ones are going to help put it together, but it is worth it. Just be sure you (the adult) do all the cutting, and that the crafting is supervised.

What You’ll Need:

    •The PDF template for the shape of Joy’s head
    • Paper
    • Parchment paper
    • Scissors
    • Toothpick
    • Small plastic sandwich bag
    • Kitchen knife
    • 1-1.5 tablespoons slivered almonds
    • Blue gel food coloring
    • Cantaloupe (a firm melon is preferable to one that is too ripe)
    • 2-3 teaspoons whipped low-fat cream cheese
    • 1 raisin

How To Make It:

  • 1. Print out the template on paper, and place the sheet atop a piece of parchment paper cut to the same size. Hold the printout and parchment paper together, and cut out the hair and face shapes, snipping through both layers of paper at once. (You will need the parchment shapes later to cut similar shapes from the melon.)
  • 2. Measure the almonds into a small plastic sandwich bag. Dip the end of a toothpick into the blue food coloring and then stir the coloring with 3-4 drops of water (you can do this right in a tablespoon). Add the diluted coloring to the bag of almonds. Gently massage the bag to tint the nuts as evenly as possible. Repeat this step if needed, but don’t tint the nuts too dark. Spread the almonds on a small plate and allow the dye to dry for a few minutes.
  • 3. Meanwhile, cut off the rounded surface from one side of the cantaloupe to expose a large flat surface, as shown. Then, cut a ½-inch thick slice from the melon.
  • 4. Place the parchment paper “hair” template atop the melon slice for a pattern and then use the tip of a sharp kitchen knife to cut out a matching piece from the cantaloupe. Use the “face” template in the same manner, additionally cutting out the eye openings. (Note: If there is not room enough on the original melon slice, you will need to cut a second ½-inch slice.) Finally, use the tip of the knife to score mouth and nose lines in the melon face, referring to the template for placement.
  • 5. Place the melon face on a serving plate and fill the eye openings with 1 teaspoon of whipped cream cheese (½ teaspoon each). For the irises, use the toothpick to stir a very small bit of blue food coloring into ½ teaspoon of cream cheese. Use the toothpick to spread the blue cream cheese into oval iris shapes, about ½-inch long, positioning it close to the inner edge. For each pupil, snip a tiny piece from the raisin and set it atop the iris. Finally, use the clean end of the toothpick to add a small round “glint” of white cream cheese to the edge of each pupil.
  • 6. Spread a thin layer of white cream cheese, about 1½ teaspoons, atop the melon hair shape. Then set the hair shape on the plate immediately above the face so that the two pieces fit together. Lightly press individual tinted almond slivers in place atop the cream cheese to complete your Joy treat.

Free Cubeecraft Paper Craft of Edith from Despicable Me

Edith is the middle child of the three girls Gru adopted. A little more unruly than Margo or Agnes, Edith finds her place in the world as a destructive but awesome tomboy. Edith is a child that should probably be watched like a hawk. She has been known to play with dangerous weapons, break bottles full of unknown liquids (which are probably deadly) and seems to have a desire to drink random liquids. She is quiet for the most part, but be aware, the quiet ones are crazy as Edith proves when she kicks Dr. Nefario in the shin.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
While she may be destructive, Edith is also a lovable sister, she will do anything for them. She also loves attending ballet with her sisters, which I might add, she rocks at.
This cubeecraft features Edith from Despicable Me. She is wearing her iconic pink warm hat and sweater, maroon skirt and white boots.
To Build the Cubeecraft:
Materials needed:
Printer
Card stock
scissors
x-acto knife
To make:
  1. Cut out each item along the outer black lines.
  2. Cut along the white on each tab using the x-acto knife
  3. Cut along each red line using the x-acto knife
  4. Fold along each inner solid black line and slide each tab into the slots you created with an x-acto knife to form a cube of the head, body, arms, and feet
  5. Slide the arms through the red slots on either side of the body.
  6. Slide the feet through the red slots at the base of the body.
  7. Slide the now completed body through the red lots of the head.
