What You’ll Need

  • White, orange, and gray felt
  • Scissors
  • Large white pom pom
  • Medium gray pom pom
  • Hot glue gun and glue
  • Felt tip marker
  • Black buttons
  • String
  • Small pom poms
  • Tassels
  • Stocking
  • How To Make It

    1. Start by cutting out the felt: 1 orange eye piece, 2 white circles (a little larger than the buttons), 1 white nose/mouth piece, 2 gray wings, and 2 orange feet.
    2. Glue the orange felt piece onto the gray pom pom.
    3. Draw the mouth and nostrils onto the larger white piece and glue over orange piece.
    4. Glue white circles, then black buttons. Next, glue the two wings onto the top sides of the white pom pom.
    5. Glue gray pom pom to white pom pom. Then, glue the little feet onto the white pom pom. Let dry completely.
    6. Cut a long string that will attach the pom pom porg to the stocking.
    7. Carefully spread both the white and gray pom poms a little apart, lengthwise, until you hit the center. Then add glue and string to the middle of both and close back up. Let dry completely.
    8. Use the same technique to glue mini pom poms to the string, above the pom pom porg. Then, cut two more pieces of string and attach mini pom poms.
    9. Glue or tie tassels to the end of all 3 pieces of string. Then gather them at the top and tie them around the hook of your stocking.

    Notes
    All cutting and gluing should be done by an adult.

    Millennium Falcon Gingerbread Starship Recipe

    Photo and recipe from family.disney.com

    My childhood is filled with memories of my family building Gingerbread houses for the holidays. As kids, the idea of being able to play with our candy was brilliant. Of course, half the candy would end up in our mouths instead of on the gingerbread house.

    As I have grown up, I have discovered that there are way more creative gingerbread houses than the 4 walls and a roof. There are some people who have a talent to create extraordinary gingerbread houses in all different shapes and sizes. I will admit, my gingerbread skills would never match u to the masterpieces I have seen. Thankfully, family.disney.com has created a wonderful template to take the four walls and chamge it to something one would see in a Galaxy Far far away. My family and I will be able to create sour very own Millennium Falcon Gingerbread Starship piece of art!

    Take your holiday to light speed with this Millennium Falcon Gingerbread Starship. Not only is it super fun (and delicious) to create, but it’s also the perfect way to combine your family’s love of the holidays with their love of Star Wars. And with the addition of Star Wars: The Last Jedi figures, they can go on interstellar adventures to get ready for the film, in theaters on December 15. family.disney.com

    The recipe below includes the recipe for the dough, the sticky icing, and a few tips to make the best Starship this side of the galaxy. And with the free printable Millennium Falcon template, the gingerbread ship is a snap to create.

    Millennium Falcon Gingerbread Starship

    Ingredients

    DOUGH:

      • 1 egg
      • 1/2 cup molasses
      • 6 tablespoons butter, softened
      • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
      • 3 cups all-purpose flour
      • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
      • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
      • 1/4 teaspoon salt
      • 1 tablespoon ground ginger
      • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
      • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
      • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
      • 3/4 cup brown sugar
      • Small paring knife

    ICING:

      • 1 egg white
      • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
      • 2-3 cups powdered sugar

    DECORATION:

    • Zip-top bags
    • Scissors
    • Candy of your choice

    Photo and recipe from family.disney.com
    Directions

    1. Download and print the templates on cardstock. Then cut each shape out.
    2. Next, make your dough. Combine wet ingredients in a large bowl and mix.
    3. Combine dry ingredients in a small bowl. Mix the dry into the wet, about 1 cup at a time, mixing as you pour. Finish mixing with your hands and knead dough until combined completely. Chill for approximately 2 hours or more.
    4. Preheat oven to 375° F. Remove from refrigerator and roll out onto a floured surface, to 1/4” thick.
    5. Use your templates and small paring knife to cut out the shapes from the dough. Follow the templates to know the number of shapes to cut out. (Tip: Use a floured, plastic cutting board to transfer the pieces — like a giant spatula!)
    6. Place parchment paper on all trays. Once all the pieces have been cut from the dough and placed on the trays, bake smaller pieces for 7 minutes and the larger pieces for 10-15. (Tip: It’s much better for the construction if they’re over baked, rather than under baked!)
    7. Remove from oven, then let the trays and gingerbread pieces cool a little. Then slide the whole parchment paper with baked pieces onto a flat surface and let them cool completely.
    8. Make your icing while the pieces are cooling. In a large bowl add the vanilla and egg white. Using a whisk, mix in a 1/2 cup of powdered sugar at a time — only adding the next 1/2 once the first is fully mixed in. Keep adding powdered sugar until mixture is quite thick. (It should not easily drip off the whisk.)
    9. Divide icing into two zip-top bags and place in the refrigerator. Let it chill for at least 20 minutes.
    10. Take your icing bags and cut different size holes in a bottom corner — a larger one for “gluing” the gingerbread pieces together (about 1/8”) and a very small tip for the details. Now you have piping bags!
    11. Use the templates as your guide, while you construct the ship. Start by gluing ship piece #1 to #2. This will be the bottom of the ship. Repeat with your other #1 and #2 pieces — this will be the top of the ship.
    12. Next, use the icing to attach the rectangle pieces (sides A, B, and C) all around the edges to create your sides. These will hold up the top. Then pipe outlines around the edges and any small details.
    13. Attach the cockpit (piece #3). Then start decorating the Millennium Falcon! Use frosting to outline the ship, add details, and attach cookies, chocolate wafers, peppermints, chocolates, and candies

    Mariah Carey’s Christmas Movie is Adorable!

    Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas Is You begins by telling us what nearly every child wants for Christmas, a little wagging bundle of joy, jumping around on four legs and yipping at strangers. Yup, a puppy. Little Mariah is no different. Her desire for a puppy has flooded her life with amazing expectations and dreams. However, while Dreams may come true at Christmas Time, “Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas Is You” tends to dwell in the Slapstick realism of having a dog, which I found refreshing.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    It opens with Mariah wanting a dog. She watches all her friends care for their puppies and the close connections that they have. Her unrealistic views once again have her asking Santa and her family for a puppy that Christmas. I say unrealistic because she really has no idea what it means to own a dog, that is until her dad comes home with a brilliant plan..or so he thinks.

    In an effort to make Mariah never want a dog again, her father brings home the worst behaved puppy he could find. He tells Mariah that if she can care for Jack (the puppy) until Christmas, then she can have a dog of her own, the little white one she really wants at the pet store. Of course, thinking this would be a simple task, Mariah accepts the challenge.

    Let the Slapstick Realism begin. Mariah soon finds out that the challenge may be harder than she expected when everything that can go wrong does go wrong. The dog chews her shoes, destroys the home, gets sick on the floor, poops in the house, is hyper and unruly, and can’t listen to simple commands. This over the top rendition of puppy life doesn’t end there. He often gets off his leash, wrecks havoc on ice skaters, and runs around crazy when given the opportunity.

    Personally, I found it wonderful to see a more realistic idea of owning a puppy. That fact that this movie shows how much work is involved in caring for a puppy is spot on. While the over the top hilarious situations may not happen to everyone, the constant care of picking up poop, feeding, walking, cleaning, and socialization are just a few tasks an owner must be willing to do in order to care for their dog.

    As Mariah was learning how much work a puppy actually takes, I found myself really feeling sorry for Jack. I was nearly yelling at Mariah when she bought a puppy bed but refused to let Jack sleep in it. Instead he was forced to sleep on a pile of towels. And when she gave away his favorite toy, I nearly had a fit. It’s no wonder poor Jack kept acting out.

    At this point, I suddenly realized how much emotion I was showing towards Jack and his situation. I had to tip my proverbial hat to Universal 1440 Entertainment. Thankfully, my frustrations didn’t last long. “Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas Is You” is a Christmas Movie, which means there will be a happy ending for both Jack and Mariah right around the corner. And yes, I cried at the ending. The song, All I want for Christmas is You, will now forever be about the love between me and my dog.

    Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas Is You also features 3 other Mariah Carey songs including Lil Snowman. CHeck out a short clip of the song below.

    I am sure “Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas Is You” will become a Christmas classic just like her song. It is an adorable story about a girl and her puppy.

    Be sure to grab a copy at Amazon.com and add Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas Is You to your Christmas Collection.

    The Nut Job 2 Nutty by Nature is Explosively Fun

    This is not a normal musical…in fact “The Nut Job 2: Nutty By Nature” isn’t a musical at all. The cute creatures of the park will not be singing in this hilarious sequel as squirrels, gophers, mice, moles, and other animals attempt to save their park.

    I know what you are thinking…Why are the animals defending the park when Surly found a Nut Shop in the first movie? I wish I could say that takes a little explanation, but the simple fact is, the nut shop explodes. Yup, it blows up and takes it’s delicious, wonderful nuts with it. Which means, Surly and the park animals must once again scavenge for food in the harsh environment that is Liberty Park.

    I will admit, when I sat down to watch Surly and his friends defend their home, I was sure this movie would be a sequel “B” movie. One of those that would have probably been better off left in concept form. I mean, Nut Job 1 did have a problem with Character development. The Characters were what we saw at face value, there wasn’t anything deeper. The same continues in Nut Job 2. This however, didn’t destroy the movie. The slapstick comedy and absurd situations helped me see past the character development flaw and had me and my family laughing.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature opens to a wild party within the Nut Shop, where animals, who used to live in the park, are now gorging themselves on the nuts that were left behind. It is chaos involving a peanut butter machine, steam, and perhaps a caffeine bean (at least I assume their was caffeine, because these animals were going nuts). It all ends in an explosive mistake leaving the animals to once again battle nature to survive. However, their bad luck doesn’t stop there. Mix in a crooked Mayor and his a lunatic daughter and the park that was once so pristine and beautiful falls victim to the worlds worst amusement park, Lie Land..I mean Liberty Land.

    In an effort to move on, Andie sets forth on finding a new home in the park across the city. The trek across the city is actually quite hilarious as the gophers attempt to understand city life. In one particular scene, the gophers are trying to cross the street, but as they attempt to do so, a red hand flashes. Every time it flashes they stop in the middle of the street. It becomes a game of red light green light in a crosswalk. My whole family burst out laughing.

    This wasn’t the only moment of laughter. Picture the voice of Jackie Chan coming out of a cute little white mouse. Actually don’t call him cute, he gets mean…really mean. After the mayor destroyed their park by putting up a golf course, the mice became vicious, defending their city turf from intruders. Of course, being lead by Jackie Chan means that the army of mice has ninja skills, which comes in handy when it comes to helping Surly defend his park.

    With the cast also including Jeff Dunham and Gabriel Iglesias, the slapstick comedy is non-stop. The stupid yet hilarious antics are fun to watch. Basically, watch Nut Job 2 for the laughs, not for some amazing literary experience with dialog that belongs to history and performances that could win Oscars. The Nut Job 2 is what my family and I like to call “Stupid Fun.” It usually involves a movie that we can watch and just have a good time.

    In honor of The Nut Job 2: Nutty By Nature being released on DVD and Blu-Ray, Universal Studios has released two yummy recipes inspired by nuts. The recipes include: Honey Nut Granola and Pretzel Turtles. CLick the image below to download the recipes. Then make and enjoy!
