I have been a fan of Disney-Pixar Cars since Lightning and Mater first hit the big screen. It is hilarious to watch Mater and Lightning become friends through the the weirdest circumstances. Mix together Bessie, Tractor tipping, and all the cars from a little town called Radiator Springs and things will get crazy.

{SPOILERS below this point}

The crazy doesn’t stop in the first Cars movie, it radiates into all the other films, including Cars 3 where all our favorite characters return including Sally, Lightning and of course Mater. However, racing is not what it used to be and Lightning is finding it harder to keep up with a younger generation. In an attempt to make himself better, he agrees to be coached by Cruz, a female racecar coach that helps keep racers in tip-top shape. Unfortunately for Lightning, keeping up is nearly impossible.

With the world speeding by, Lightning must find what he wants to do with his life…Should he keep racing or should he quit? All his friends support whatever decision he will make, however, it is Cruz that helps Lightning find a new passion and a new purpose. This is also where the awesome theme for Cars 3 really shines!

As it turns out, Cruz wants to be a real Racecar. She wants to zoom down the track at lightning speed…actually faster than Lighting since he isn’t winning races at this point. When Lightning discovers her love for racing, he starts to train her and finds his love for teaching. While teaching Cruz, he also discovers that he still has a love for racing. All of this piles up into an epic realization that life is all about change.

Cars 3 takes change to the next level, making everything we know in the Cars world change. First, racecars are changing to be more slick and streamlined. They are built for higher speeds. Second, for the first time, we actually have a female racecar main character showing that racing is for men and for women. Third, we watch as Lightning’s career choices and his life choices must change with the times. While he shows that it is tough to let go of one part of his life, his next adventure is even better.

I think Disney-Pixar did an awesome job of telling Lightning’s story and depicting how change might be scary. However, once embraced, the changes can make life even better. I give this film FIVE STARS.
