The Grinch is a Fun Heartwarming Tale

Illumination and Universal Pictures have come together to make a new movie of Dr. Suess’s The Grinch, released today Digitally and will be released on 4K, Blu-Ray, and DVD February 3rd. The Grinch tells the story of a cynical grump who goes on a mission to steal Christmas, only to have his heart changed by a young girl’s generous spirit. Funny, heartwarming and visually stunning, The Grinch is fun for the whole family!

We all know the story. of the Grinch who stole Christmas, or at least attempted too. Where he sneaks into town disguised as Santa, takes all the Who’s Christmasy items and leaves them with nothing but crumbs. However, when the theft did not stop Christmas from coming, he learns that kindness and love are what make Christmas great.

This new release of The Grinch is a little more heartwarming and a lot more fun than past editions. With wonderful characters and graphics, which we would expect from Illumination, the whole movie is a joy to watch.

Unlike movies in the past, this Grinch doesn’t hide from the Who town; granted he would love to avoid it. However, when the need for food is dire, he does leave his rocky tower. He strolls around town shopping for food all the while hating the Whos. In one scene he even destroys a child’s snowwho, reasserting the fact that he is “A Mean One.” I mean just look at that face! (see Image above) He gets joy from other Who’s misfortune. His heart is definitely two sizes too small.

The Grinch’s Small Heart

Paired with the Grinch’s detain for Christmas is a little girl named Cindy Lou Who that loves Christmas a lot. The classic states that Cindy Lou is no more than two, but I believe she is at least 7 or 8 in this film, Her whole goal in the movie is to ask Santa to make her mom happy. So in an effort to talk to Santa, she sets a trap to capture the Jolly old man.

Cindy’s desire to make someone else happy is what starts The Grinch on a new path to discovering the true meaning of Christmas. He starts to learn that kindness and love are the most important things of all. I would also like to state that her ability to forgive is amazing. The Grinch not only lies to Cindy by pretending to be Santa, he steals every Christmas item the whole town owns. But instead of letting her heart shrink and become angry at the Grinch, Cindy Lou invites him to dinner and forgives him. As I have stated before…absolutely heartwarming.

I love this remake. The Characters are fun, The Grinch is well rounded, and the meaning is not lost. Illuminations The Grinch will be a Christmas movie my whole family will watch every year.

Along with The Grinch, the movie also comes with 3 new mini movies featuring everyone’s favorite Minions and The Grinch’s dog Max. I will admit, when I got the Blu-ray to review, I went straight to the mini movies first.

Yellow is the new Black – Making fun of the TV series Orange is the New Black, Yellow is the new Black follows two minions during their time in prison and their brief moment of freedom during their escape. From rubber duckies to circus acts, the Minions make their escape a cute and fun adventure.

Dog Days of Winter – When the Grinch catches a nasty cold, it is up to Max to bring him his favorite warm tea. However, there is no more left in the house. So with love for the Grinch, Max makes his way through a cold winter storm to go to town to buy more tea. With avalanches, crazy birds, and mean shop owners, Max’s trip is anything but easy.

Santa’s Little Helpers – We all know that Minions want to be helpful, they just tend to mess up…sometimes rather badly. However, in Santa’s Little Helpers, they may have just found a helpful task worthy of three little minions, and it isn’t cleaning up after reindeer.

All three of these mini movies are hilarious to watch and they are a great addition to the collection. Another Win for Illumination and us fans!
