Cute Queen-for-a-Day Mother’s Day Cupcakes

I am always looking for something unique and special to make for my mom. While I could pick up something from the local store, I just can’t get past the idea that everything is so mass produced, which just doesn’t feel that special. So that leaves me with no other choice but to get creative. Ideas are always helpful so I tend to scour the internet looking for that one little light bulb. It’s like my own special treasure hunt for that perfect gift or decoration.

I have been struggling with finding her something adorable, something she really hasn’t seen before. I wanted her to feel like a Queen on her special day, pampered and relaxed. So looking for something in the realm of royalty, my search led me to Disney Princesses and crowns. Talk about something PERFECT. I found the cutest, royally awesome, cupcakes!

My first concern was “Can I make these?” I mean I have tried cute food art in the past only to end up with my food looking like a Tornado rushed through my kitchen, grabbing all of my supplies, and twirling them into a glob of indistinguishable goo. I am sure we have all seen those failed memes where they show a beautiful picture of food art and then the attempt

…yeah…
mine are ten times worse.

Of course my determined brain told me I could do this. My more logical side just laughed. However, with so few ingredients, I decided, why not try. Turns out, it is not so difficult.

The instructions provided on Disney.family.com take you through it step by step, which is nice. The instructions are shared below with a few tips from myself in blue. I would definitely read those tips.

The required items are simple to come by and take no time to collect (unless you are making your cupcakes from scratch).

Items needed:
~Pink-frosted mini cupcakes You can either make these from scratch or purchase plain cupcakes from a store with any color frosting you want. I made chocolate cupcakes for my mom
~Mini yellow Laffy Taffy bars
~Water
~White frosting
~Sparkling sugar
~Sugar pearls
~Red decorator gel or your choice of color

How to make:
These directions are for the crown only

1. To make the crown, place a wrapped mini yellow Laffy Taffy in a cup of warm water for 2 to 3 minutes to soften it. Be sure it is wrapped. Unwrapped does not work. It really pays to read the instructions
Unwrap it, then flatten it with a rolling pin until it’s 1-1/4 by 3-3/4 inches. basically form a little rectangle that is longer than it is tall.
Use a knife to straighten the strip’s edges.

2. With the tip of a teaspoon, cut five arches along one edge, as shown. I used a small round cookie cutter. It worked perfectly
Join the ends to form a crown and seal the seam with a few drops of water. Let it sit for about 10 minutes to harden slightly.

3. Dip the bottom of the crown into white frosting, then into sparkling sugar, and press it into place on a pink-frosted mini cupcake.
Apply a small dab of white frosting with a toothpick to each crown point, then press on a sugar pearl. for whatever reason, this was the hard part. I found I needed to use much more than a dab to make the pearl stick.
Add red decorator gel jewels around the middle of the crown for a final flourish. Any color works. Choose your moms favorite color

And you are done! See not so difficult at all.

Groot may just look like a walking tree with very low communication skills, but he is more than meets the eye. And who could not love the one sentenced speaking humanoid-tree Groot voiced by Vin Diesel? His iconic “I am Groot” certainly saturated many social media outlets bringing forth fan art and memes.

Gamora was raised to be the perfect weapon and nearly perfect assassin. But with so many killings and crimes, she seeks redemption, thus leading her to join the other misfits to save the Galaxy.

Lady Tremaine Cubeecraft from Cinderella

Affected by the green eyed monster. Lady Tremaine (or the evil stepmother) is a nasty Disney Villain. When it came to Cinderella’s happiness, Lady Tremaine did everything she could to destroy it. Especially when it came to her love for the Prince/ Instead of enjoying such a happy occasion that one of her daughters would be royalty, Lady Tremaine locks Cinderella in her tower and tries to prevent the joyous marriage. Throughout Cinderella’s life, Lady Tremaine scolded, mentally abused, and eventually made Cinderella a servant in her own house. Her two other daughters, Anastasia and Drizella, are then spoiled rotten and treated like princesses. If it were not for the fairy god mother and the animals, Cinderella may have felt utterly alone and depressed.

With any Disney Villain there is usually a pet that stands by them in all their infuriating tricks and dastardly deeds. Lady Tremaine has a cat, and not just any cat, a cat that equals her in character and massive evilness. The cat’s name is Lucifer, and it is a rather fitting name. This evil cat will stop at nothing to cause extra work and more chores for Cinderella. Not to mention he terrorizes the dog Bruno and all the mice.

With such an iconic duo, I thought it best to keep these two characters together in my next cubeecraft. So not only will you get a cubeecraft of Lady Tremaine, you will also receive a puppet of Lucifer the cat and his evil grin. This cubeecraft of Lady Tremaine was inspired by the Disney movie Cinderella.

CUBEECRAFT
Materials needed:
Printer
Card stock
scissors
Craft knife

To make:

Cut out each item along the outer black lines.
Cut along the white on each tab using the Craft knife and around the hair. Be careful not to cut through the tabs. It will make putting the head together rather difficult.
Cut along each red line using the Craft knife
Fold along each inner solid black or purple line and slide each tab into the slots created with a Craft knife to form a cube of the head, arms, dress, and feet.
Slide the arms through the red slots on either side of the dress.
Slide the feet through the red slots at the base of the dress.
Slide the the dress into the red slots of the head.
She is now complete

To put together Lucifer

Cut out the puppet around the outer black line. Be careful not to separate the piece by the ears.
Fold the cat in half at the ears so that the two sides match up perfectly, color sides facing out
Fold up at the dark line on either side of the cat to form a base
At this point it should stand. If you wish for it to stick together you may use glue or tape but it isn’t necessary.
Lucifer is now done

Why Maya The Bee is an Excellent Movie For The Whole Family!

Meet Maya the Bee. She was born into a hive of rules, fear, and prejudices that are bred into the next generation. From the moment she pushed through her honeycomb room, Maya has seen the world differently, questioned everything, and wanted to have fun. Her life takes a spiral turn to a possible never ending struggle as she attempts to share her open-mindedness with her fellow bees. But by sharing her “radical” ideals, Maya becomes an outcast and often told she is not a normal bee. Although she attempted to make an effort to be a good bee and follow the rules, Maya often found rules regarding prejudice towards other bugs “Kinda Silly”. Her free spirit lands her in trouble many times, eventually leading to her banishment from the hive.

From the moment I started watching this film, I could not pull myself away. The story line hit home and I found myself feeling sorry for Maya, who could not find a place to fit in. Every child and adult has felt the need to find their place in the world and watching Maya make the same struggles resonated with emotions pushed aside a long time ago. Maya the Bee Movie connects with children, young and old, enlightening the fact that they are not alone in this struggle of fitting in. Eventually sharing the honest fact that the way to fit in is being yourself. You are special and can make a difference.

While “Fitting in” is a common theme in the Maya The Bee movie, it is not the only idea buzzed upon. Maya is different from her hive in many ways. Unlike her fellow Honey Bees, Maya talks to other bugs, asks them for help and makes friends. The hive finds this ridiculous. If it was between death and asking a bug below their station for help, they would rather die first. However, Maya finds it exciting and makes friends with a grasshopper named Flip, a dung beetle, and even a Hornet, the enemy of the Bee Hive. Her compassion for others teaches her Bee friend Willy and other fellow bees what it means to be a friend.

You could almost do a direct comparison from this movie to our lives. The Moral is simple, don’t be prejudice. In the movie, bugs come in all different colors, sizes, shapes, attitudes, and smells. Maya looks past all that and gets to know the bug behind the outer appearance. We, as humans, should be capable of doing the same thing. Seeing a person for who they are not what they look like.

This line of thought could continue into themes of “working together”, “don’t fear the unknown”, “Remember to have a little fun in life” etc. However, instead of a blog page, this would become an essay drawing forth all the correlations between what we see happening now and what is happening in the movie. Instead, watch it yourself with the family and make your own connections. It will be easy to do as well. Not only is the story line a hit, the animated graphics are amazing. Truly, the makers of Maya The Bee Movie spent a lot of time creating the vast meadow and each unique characteristic in every Bug. As an adult, I expected something more child like, in the realm of Mickey Mouse Club House, but I was pleasantly surprised. Like a kid, I was drawn to the art and scenery.

And if you thought the Maya The Bee Movie was only for young children, think again. There are Geek references to other classic movies. When a Hornet buzzes the sentence, “Nobody puts Queeny in a corner” I almost died laughing. I always enjoy films that are geared towards kids but also add a few nuances for the adults.

All-in-all this film is amazing for the whole family. From Geeky quotes to lessons in diversity, Maya the Bee Movie is one of the most touching and adorable films I have seen this year. I highly recommend this film to all families.

Free Coloring Page and Wallpaper Featuring Nightgeist from Slugterra

Nightgeist is the Ghouled version of the Frightgeist. This scary little slug is teal and silver with Red eyes and a bad temper. When hit by a Nightgeist, you become an instant coward, afraid of your own shadow, and will run away in terror. Even Eli Shane felt the effects after being hit by one. Ghouled slugs are nothing to play with, and should never have been created. But due to their nasty tempers and amazing fighting abilities they are a favorite among Dr. Blakk and his followers/partners. The Nightgeist is no exception. To be hit by one of these almost guarantees you will lose the match, until, of course, the effects wear off and you are in your right mind again.

The Nightgeist velocimorph is a nightmare all on it’s own. Almost something you would picture as a Boogieman’s minion. It has razor sharp claws, pointy teeth and a nasty snake like tongue. It also features a face that gives the appearance of a skull. It keeps the colors from it’s Ghouled protoform.

Dark Side Chocolate Milkshake
Ingredients
2 cups chocolate ice cream
1/2 and 1/4 cup of Whipped Cream (separated)
1/8 cup of milk
Chocolate powder
crushed Malt balls or small bits of a chocolate bar

Directions
1. Blend 2 cups of ice cream, 1/2 cup of Whipped cream, 1/8 cup milk and Malt balls together in a blender.
2. Pour into a cup and add 1/4 cup of whipped cream to the top and sprinkle with chocolate powder

Han Solo Frozen in Carbonite
Ingredients
Favorite Jello Packet
Han Solo Action Figure, sanitized

Directions
1. Prepare the Jello according to the Package instructions
2. Place in a large Square Dish.
3. Let jello Cool in the fridge for 1 hour.
4. Remove Jello and place Han Solo inside.
5. Place back in fridge and allow the Jello to solidify
6. Display and serve

Blue milk
Ingredients
1 cup milk
½ teaspoon unsweetened blue fruit punch mix
1 teaspoon sugar

Directions
1. Pour the milk into a tall glass and gently stir in the blue fruit punch mix. The drink should be lightly tinted blue. Adjust the amount of mix to get the color that you like.
2. Add sugar to taste.

C-3PO-tato Salad
Ingredients
12 white potatoes, cubed
1 red bell pepper, diced
6 hard boiled eggs, cooled & diced
1 C. celery, diced
1/2 C. green onions, diced
3 Tbs. chunky dill relish
1 1/2 C. mayonnaise, light
2 Tbs. honey mustard to taste
salt & pepper

Directions
1. Boil the white & red potatoes until tender. then let cool
2. Mix together The bell pepper, eggs, celery. green onions. dill relish. mayonnaise, mustard, salt and pepper
3. Add the potatoes
4. Chill and then serve

If these were not enough to get you going, you can always purchase the Star Wars cookbooks I mentioned above. They will give you all kinds of dinner ideas like “Han Burgers” or “Boba Fett-uccine”. Drinks like “Yoda Soda” and “Jawa Juice” are also included. And don’t forget dessert with “Watto cubes” or “Frozen Hoth Chocolate”. There is so much to look through and cook, you won’t be able to stop from becoming a Star Wars Chef. Perhaps Dexter will hire you.

Paddington features an All-Star Cast such as Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins and Nicole Kidman.

It tells the story of the comic misadventures of a young Peruvian bear who travels to the city in search of a home. Finding himself lost and alone, he begins to realize that city life is not all he had imagined -until he meets the kindly Brown family who read the label around his neck that says “Please look after this bear. Thank you,” and offer him a temporary haven. It looks as though his luck has changed until this rare talking bear catches the eye of a museum taxidermist. Free Coloring Page and Wallpaper Featuring Lavalynx from Slugterra

According to Eli Shane, the Lavalynx is a very dangerous slug. It’s attacks mostly deal with lava. They are Dark brown in color with large eyes like a Bubbaleone. But this little guy is no picnic. The lava attacks are sure to cause massive damage and intense pain from burns and heat. Lavalynx is one of the only slugs to be a serious threat to people. I say “One of the only” because Geoshard is also known to be life threatening and dangerous if not fired carefully. When Lavalynx is used, people often get nervous and show fear. Even Eli showed a little nervousness when one was aimed at Kord.

Lavalynx is a little weird when it comes to his velocimorph. Usually a slug’s velocimorph resembles some feature of their protoform. The Lavalynx breaks that tradition by becoming A flying molten Lava Rock with large arms and 3 molten fingers. It is certainly one of the more unique slugs in all the 99 caverns.

Disney-Pixar Inside Out Pop! Vinyl Characters

Disney-Pixar is bring to life the emotions inside each of us. These emotions help guide us through life. Riley, her mom and her dad all have these little animated emotions inside their heads as they struggle with their move, their new home and their city. But when some are lost for even a short period of time, the other emotions are left to run wild. Read the story below for a synopsis of Inside Out coming to Theaters June 19, 2015!

Story:
Growing up is a bumpy road, and it’s no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley’s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school. (Inside Out)
