Minnie’s Happy Helpers Review and Printable Activities

Minnie and Daisy get their very own Happy Helpers DVD this July 25th. These best friends take on some of the biggest jobs throughout the community by helping friends and their loved ones with a song and a smile. It may sound easy enough, but these tasks take responsibility to the next level. They have to babysit an egg, help with a hula, fix what is broken and so much more! It is all racers to the starting line as Minnie’s Happy Helpers bring the fun to every Disney home. Grab a copy of Minnie’s Happy Helpers from Amazon.com.

Minnie’s Happy Helpers DVD comes with 6 Happy Helper episodes, including

  • Egg-Xasperating!
  • Happy Hula Helpers!
  • Tea Time Trouble!
  • Happy Birthday Helpers!
  • Bed, Breakfast and Bungled!
  • Gone Fishin’!
  • and a bonus episode:

  • Teed Off!
  • These episodes are actually really entertaining for the whole family. The younger kids in the family will love to see their favorite characters singing and having fun while they help their community. Each episode teaches friendship, socialization, understanding, patience, and acceptance along with helping others. The adults will love the humor.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    An example of amazing friendship, patience and understanding can be found in every episode but the one that caught my eye was “Bed, Breakfast and Bungled!” Minnie agrees to take over a hotel while the owner is away. She calls on her friends to help her, which they all jump at the chance to do so. Already the episode is showing what it takes to be a fantastic friend. Minnie then goes on to show how patience and understanding are some of the greatest qualities of a friend. When Clarabelle Cow can’t find a job that is right for her, Minnie doesn’t give up. She knows there is something for everyone. Even when the situation goes from bad to worse as a flood threatens the hotel, she still has faith in her friend. Her patience and understanding teach kids that not everything will go as planned but we can continue to trust that our friends have our back just as we have theirs.

    While there are some awesome socialization lessons, Minnie’s Happy Helpers also realizes that adult will be watching this film as well. Enter the sassy and sarcastic Cuckoo-Loca, Minnie’s cuckoo clock bird. Much of her humor is probably lost on the younger audience members, but it is not lost on the adults. I found her hilarious and I am sure most adults will as well. Not only is Cuckoo-Loca hilarious but I found myself laughing at crazy situations as they unfolded. Let’s just say I need a Molly the Mallet. In “Egg-Xasperating!” Daisy fixes their machine by hitting it with an unusually large mallet…We all know the feeling. If it refuses to work, give it some tough love HAHAHA.

    After watching Minnie’s Happy Helpers and laughing through much of it, this is one DVD I won’t mind being played over and over again (It is better to face that now, it will be a repeated request). It gets the 5 out of 5 stars from SKGaleana.

    Free Printable Coloring Page of Neotox from Slugterra

    Neotox is a rare plant slug with toxic abilities that can make a slug or attacker sick. It also has the ability to destroy metals by corrosion. They are found in swamps or marshes. Their orange head is a sure sign of the dangers this slug can ensue upon it’s victims. Remember, bright colors on an animal usually mean “Do Not Touch…Deadly.” The same can be said for a Neotox.

    The danger really occurs when multiple Neotox are fired at once creating a forever expanding Neotox fog. It is a deadly cloud of gas that just keeps growing and the only way to stop it is by firing a Vinedrill that knows Vinevent. Side note: One should be careful with the Vinedrill and Neotox, at first glance they look very similar. If you are looking to stop a Neotox cloud, make sure you are not firing another Neotox into the cloud.

    The ghouled form of a Neotox is Neurotox. Like the Neotox, Neurotox also has the ability to emit a toxic fog. However, this fog corrupts plants making it far more deadly. To dispel its effects a slugslinger will need a Vinedrill to remove the fog and a Boon Doc to heal the plants. Let’s just say…don’t fire this slug.

    For more information about Neotox see the specs below. Then grab the free coloring page and color your own Neotox.

    A Stork’s Journey is Coming to DVD

    After a Sparrow loses his parents before he has even hatched, his life takes on a strange new adventure when he is raised by storks in A Stork’s Journey, coming to DVD July 4th.

    ~~~SPOILERS BELOW~~~~
    A Storks Journey begins with a happy sparrow family getting ready for their egg to hatch. However, the wild is a dangerous place and a happy story can quickly turn into a tragedy. Before they get to see their beloved baby, Richard, they are eaten. Oh yes, you read that right. A Stork’s Journey begins with a Tarzan scenario where both parents become dinner. While the eating of the parents is not shown, it is hinted at with the fluttering of small feathers in the wind. FYI: Be prepared to explain what happened to them. More than likely you will get the question. “What happened mommy?” once the parents vanish.
    I will admit, the whole “parents die” theme is getting kind of old. At first I had a hard time getting into this movie. I understand that there needs to be a tragic backstory so that the sparrow can think he is a stork. However, the theme is over used and bordering on cliche. It seems a journey to self discovery simply can’t happen without some sort of parent annihilation. And the tragic story doesn’t end there.
    After the death of his parents and a summer of fun as a stork, his adoptive Stork mother leaves him to fend for himself during the harsh winter. While this doesn’t sound too bad, it actually is horrible. This cute little sparrow thinks he is a stork and has no idea how to act like a sparrow. So his adoptive family basically leaves him for dead, which almost happens until a mentally disturbed oversize Pygmy owl named Olga saves his life.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    While the first 20 minutes of A Stork’s Journey is a tragedy-happy-tragedy sandwich, the rest of the plot does get a little more interesting and funny, ending with a wonderful moral.
    As Richard makes his way to Africa to be with his family, he runs into all kinds of strange characters. In fact, I am not sure he ever meets anyone “normal”. For example, he meets pigeons who are obsessed with the online world. They grab a hold of the cable wires and their brains are digitized…actually it might be more accurate to say their brains are fried…haha. No matter what happens to their brains, they are just as crazy as Olga, and yet just as helpful in their own way.
    With all the shenanigans and hilarious characters, it is possible to miss the biggest part of this movie, the moral of the story. It turns out that the moral of this story is “be yourself.” No matter who you are, you can still do great and amazing things. Take Olga for example. She is an extra-large Pygmy owl that has been made fun of and bullied most of her life. She creates an imaginary friend to help her cope and she develops a crazy personality. However, she is always there to help a friend and because she is large in stature, she is able to help Richard make the journey to Africa. By accepting her size and who she is, Olga goes on to do great things. Her so-called handicap is actually her greatest strength.
    I personally love what A Stork’s Journey teaches. The moral makes up for the first 20 minutes of the movie, which makes A Stork’s Journey worth a watch for the entire family. It is, after all, Dove Family Approved for all ages.
    I give it a 3.5 out of 5 stars.
    For more information of A Stork’s Journey, see my blog Download A Storks Journey for Free Today. This blog post even has a free activity page you can download print and create. It contains tic-tac-toe, a maze and a coloring activity.
    Free Printable Coloring Page of Tenasher from Slugterra
    Tenasher is a rare slug, which debuted in the popular game Slugterra: Slug it out 2. He is a Crocodile type slug that features a gigantic mouth, which turns out is perfect for eating slugs or taking a large bite out of their opponent. In protoform, Tenasher is a rainbow of purple, blues, greens, and pinks. He has a large snout and a Crocodile-like belly. He also features spines down his back like a stegosaurus. So it might be prudent to say that he is half crocodile and half dinosaur. In Velocimorph form, Tenasher changes to all mouth. His large mouth takes up most of his form making him look like a weirdly beautiful Crocodile or scary T-Rex head. I am sure, if his opponents were not frozen with fear, they would flee at the mere sight of Tenasher.
    In Slugterra: Slug it out 2, Tenasher uses his “eating Slugs” ability to eat his opponents slugs while flying through the air. For every slug Tenasher eats, he gains more slug energy. This makes him very similar to Makobreaker, except for way more colorful.
    For more information about Tenasher see the specs below. Then grab the free coloring page and color your own Tenasher.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Many of these stats are assumptions. There is little known about the new slugs until the slugterra database is updated. I did find a few details from http://slugterra.wikia.com. Again they are unofficial, but they are possibilities.
    Baby Groot Cookie Recipe
    I was perusing the Disney Family, checking out their new crafts and recipes when I stumbled upon the cutest cookies one will ever see featuring Baby Groot! I have to say, I am in love. To quote Family Disney,
    It’s fair to say that Baby Groot stole the show in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 2 with his all-around cuteness and devotion to his friends. Why not bring a little of this adorable character into your kitchen with these Baby Groot-inspired cookies?! He Is Groot, after all. family.disney.com
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    I was concerned that these baby Groot cookies would be hard to eat. I mean, who can take a bite out of Baby Groot? My family, apparently, because they went fast. So, even maximum cuteness doesn’t stop the eating of a yummy cookie.
    Note: This recipe is a little more difficult than the usual Disney Family Recipe, meaning that we have to make the cookies from scratch. Usually we find recipes on Family Disney that tell you to buy the dough, this time we can make it ourselves…I love that! So it is a little more work, but oh so delicious!
    Baby Groot Cookies
    Ingredients
    • 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
    • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
    • 1 tablespoon ground ginger
    • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
    • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
    • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted brown butter, room temperature
    • 1/2 cup packed dark brown sugar
    • 1 large egg
    • 1/2 cup molasses For Icing
    • 2 cups powdered sugar
    • 2-3 tablespoons milk
    • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • Black, green, and brown food coloring
    Photo and recipe from family.disney.com
    Directions
    1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and salt. Set aside.
    2. In an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat the butter and sugar together for 2 minutes on medium-high speed until light and fluffy. Add in eggs and molasses, and beat on medium speed until combined. Reduce mixer speed to low, and gradually add the flour mixture until just combined.
    3. Form dough into a disc and wrap tightly in plastic wrap, and chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or overnight.
    4. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Unwrap the dough and place it on a large, lightly-floured hard surface. Use a floured rolling pin to roll the dough 1/8-inch thick. Cut out Groot cookies using a template. I found one online. Transfer to parchment-covered baking sheets.
    5. Bake for 7-9 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
    6. To Decorate: Whisk all ingredients together in a bowl until smooth. If your icing is too thin, add in a little more powdered sugar. Divide icing into 3 bowls and make each color.
    7. Use a piping bag, or a ziplock bag (with the corner snipped off), to pipe the icing onto the cookies. For Groot’s details, I used black icing for this eyes and mouth. Added vines around his body with brown icing and used green icing for the leaves.
