Happy Earth Day! It is time to show Mother Nature and the Earth that we care about their well being! Plant a tree, start a garden, and “go green” are all ways to celebrate the earth and all it has to offer. Speaking of what the Earth has to offer, Did you know that you can grow your own celery from the base of the stalk you bought from your local organic market? It is pretty easy. Follow the steps on my blog here. It makes a wonderful Earth Day ACTIVITY that will bring joy as it grows.

Disney Junior Printable Paper Airplane Templates

If the weather has not told you already, spring is here! It is time for playing outdoors in the warmth of the sun. It is also perfect weather to fly paper airplanes! I find it to be a great activity for the family to enjoy together and it only requires a few sheets of paper. On top of enjoying the outdoors and having fun together as a family, the crafting of paper airplanes is a great way to get the brains working as everyone tries to figure out how best to build and create their plane.

Once all airplane are completed, have each kid write their name on their plane. Then have the kids stand at one end of the yard and toss the plane. The person with the plane that flies the farthest wins. Of course you can add other ways to win, such as: who can get theirs to return to them, who can get theirs to loop-d-loop, and so-on.

To help the little kids in the group that may struggle a bit with the paper plane creation Disney Junior has put together a few Paper Airplane templates featuring some of their favorite characters. Rocket through space with Miles From Tomorrowland, soar through the Sky with Sofia the First, and Pirate the skies with Jake and the Neverland Pirates. Each paper airplane template comes with easy instructions and marks so you know where to fold.

Ratchet & Clank’s Junior Ranger Event at Google

VENICE, CA – RATCHET & CLANK, the new family event movie based on the PlayStation game, hosted fun-filled kids Junior Ranger event for kids over the weekend at Google in Venice, CA. The afternoon included a preview screening of the animated movie, a Q&A with JAMES ARNOLD TAYLOR and DAVID KAYE (the longtime voices of Ratchet & Clank) and the movie’s director KEVIN MUNROE, moderated by Roth Cornet from Hitfix, as well as an animation demo by RAINMAKER and a game demo by INSOMNIAC. The event was designed to encourage inner-city kids and young girls to get hands-on experience with the technical side of animation and gaming.

Once the demos completed, the kids broke up into small groups and were challenged with designing a gadget for the RATCHET & CLANK universe. The winning groups received copies of the new RATCHET & CLANK PlayStation game.

The Junior Ranger event was attended by 130 students from the Downey School District who have implemented Project Lead the Way (Project Lead the Way is a United States 501 non-profit organization that develops STEM curricula for use by elementary, middle, and high schools) and have also started a “Femineers” program to encourage girls to learn and interact more with engineering and science. An additional 15-20 kids came from LA Makerspace program, which, like Project Lead the Way, is a non-profit organization focused on increased access to STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) for low-income children, youth, and families.

From Toy Story and a restaurant known as Pizza Planet comes a cute little Alien that believes The Claw is it’s master. These little green Aliens often speak in unison with almost barbaric ideals. Of course if you lived in a machine with a claw and knew nothing else of the real world, you might be a little barbaric as well.

On a side note, if you rescue one of these guys it turns out they are with you for life, stating their little catch phrase, “You have saved our lives. We are eternally grateful.” Poor Mr. Potato Head is stuck with them forever.

Want a little more BB-8 in your life? Who doesn’t! BB-8 has taken the world by storm as one of the cutest droids out there, second only to R2-D2 in my opinion. His round little body rolling along makes many fans smile. How many of you have sang, “They see me rolling, they hatin'”? I know I have.

Today, in honor of BB-8’s fame, We’ve got a special bonus clip and concept art showing the design process behind creating the world’s new favorite droid! There are also a few pictures of BB-8 and his travels. This little celebrity has been very busy on screen as well as off! Take a look at a special visit he made to NASA’s JPL laboratories where he interacted with the best and brightest droids from this galaxy as well as celebrating the inaugural international flight of Japan’s ANA BB-8 Jet!
