Suffragette: The 19 Days of Suffrage Giveaway

When you take the time to vote this year, remember to take a moment and thank all the women who fought to give you the right to vote. It was not an easy battle. Those who fought for our right to vote lost so much. Equality was an alien term for the leaders during that time and sparked fear in those who could not handle change. As such, these Suffragettes were made to look crazy, never allowed to see their kids, had to hide from the law, lost their jobs and some even lost their lives. Yet, the women continued to fight, never giving into the popular archaic thoughts that infected the lives of society. The women looked to the future, to hope of equality.

Suffragette Poster

In recognition of their fight, Focus Features took this momentous event in history and created a film, inspired by true events, called Suffragette. This heart-breaking and inspirational drama focuses on the real foot soldiers of the Suffragette movement and how they turned to violence as the only route to change. They were willing to lose everything in their fight for equality – their jobs, their homes, their children and their lives.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This month, Focus Features wants to honor the 19th Amendment, which granted women in the United States the right to vote in 1919. with the campaign, “19 Days of Suffrage” (#19daysofsuffrage). Today is Day 2 of the “19 Days of Suffrage.”

19 Days of Suffragette 2

  • Week of 11/16: Who in your life inspired you?
  • Week of 11/23: What are you most Thankful For and what still needs to be fought for? #fightsnotover

What Does It Mean to be a Suffragette

Suffragette Poster

Today is the first day of the “19 Days of Suffrage,” (#19DaysofSuffrage) to celebrate the powerful film Suffragette, as it releases in theaters nationwide through Thanksgiving. These 19 Days are in honor of the 19th Amendment, which granted women in the United States the right to vote in 1919. Imagine if these women had not taken the stand to give all of us women equal rights.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

As you go about your day today, think about the movement for equality. Tomorrow may seem like just another election day, but in reality, those who fought for women’s right would find tomorrow empowering. Watch the special clip below about how things have change from Then to Now.

Now that you have seen the comparison of women’s rights from then to now, share the badge below with a post about what you think it means to be a Suffragette and how this movement affected your life. Pin it, Tweet it, share it, Instagram it and get the word out that you have joined the “19 Days of Suffrage.”

For a little background information here is an Educational Study Guide with facts about the women’s movement for equality. It features activities for:
Created Equal” – Taking us back 100 years to where very few women were equal to men
Deeds not Words” – About how women in Great Britain had to be forceful in their cause, which was much different than the tactics used in the United States.

Star Wars Rebels Season 2 Printable Resistance Kit

Star Wars Rebels Season 2 Poster

With the new season of Star Wars Rebels, Ezra, Zeb, Hera, Sabine, and Kanan have all new adventures aa they are suddenly hit with the realization that they may not be alone in their battle against the Empire. Old friends, new allies and Dark enemies all cameo in this new epic season. Darth Vader even makes an appearance as the Rebels make their fight more public.

I think the most exciting character that has enter the Rebels universe is Ahsoka Tano, who is now a part of the rebellion and dedicated to defeating the Empire. I loved her in Clone Wars and was very curious about her path as a Jedi. I am so glad they have continued her story.

With an all new season comes an all new Rebels Resistance Kit. Well I guess it isn’t all new, there are a few duplicates from season 1. However, the items that are new are an awesome addition to the Rebels printable collection.

The emotions of Fear, Joy, Sadness, Anger and Disgust hit the screen in Disney-Pixar’s all new animated feature, Inside Out, now on Digital HD and Coming to DVD and Blu-Ray November 3rd!

The entire film is concentrated on the emotions of an 11 year old girl named Riley. When she and her parents suddenly move to San Francisco, California, Riley goes into a downward spiral of emotional chaos. Joy does everything she can to keep Riley happy, but Sadness gets in the way. After an argument over a core memory, Sadness and Joy are sucked from headquarters and lost in Riley’s memories. With no Joy to man the controls, Fear, Anger and Disgust are left to try and help Riley through the move. Unfortunately, Anger, Fear and Disgust have no idea how to make Riley happy and Riley is left scared, angry and disgusted with her situation and her parents.

Fear anger disgust Inside Out

Meanwhile, Joy is on a mission to find her way back to headquarters and fix Riley before she is gone forever. With Sadness in tow and a little help from Bing Bong, Riley’s used-to-be imaginary friend, Joy does everything she can to find her way back up to headquarters, which is in the highest tower, and back to her girl, Riley.

Joy’s constant struggle and never give-up attitude is inspirational to not only the kids in the audience but to the adults as well. Life is a constant uphill battle to make things better and we fight to get there and keep it. A quote that comes to my mind is from the movie Galaxy Quest: “Never Give up, Never Surrender.” And Joy never does give up, getting more creative as she goes along to finally get where she belongs. In an interesting correlation, Riley is also in the same situation as Joy. She is struggling to find where she belongs in her new surroundings and without Joy to see the positive in the situations she is lost and losing hope. They both must find their place in their new home and adapt to their surroundings or risk losing themselves forever.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Inside Out enlightens it’s audience by sharing that loss and change are common in all our lives. How we react to these changes and adapt makes us emotionally grow as a person. Even Riley grows emotionally after her struggle. The audience sees this when Fear, Anger, Disgust, Joy and Sadness get a new command center. The terminal is larger and has even more command buttons, including the entire curse word library, much to Angers excitement. Riley’s struggles may have been hard and trying at times, but her struggles helped shape her personality, She is still a goofball, but far more advanced emotionally. She is no longer controlled by one solitary emotion, she now experiences life through all her emotions with deeper feeling.

New Comaand Center Inside Out

Speaking of feelings, I feel that everyone should see this film. Not only will you enjoy the characters and their development, but I am sure you will find concepts that I have not even touched on. This is probably one of Disney-Pixar’s more complicated movies with so many correlations and meanings hidden within characters and events. It will be inspirational, educational and entertaining. The kids will enjoy it and so will the adults in the family.

Not only is the film exceptional, but so are the bonus features! The Blu-ray/DVD copy comes with 2 epic short films!

Inside Out Lava Short
Lava is the first short I watched. I had heard so much about the song featured in the short film I wanted to check this out first. Let’s just say, I cried. I little short animated feature turned on the waterfall of tears and I was left struggling with my emotional stability. While Lava is a love story that takes place over millions of years, it is combined into a short 7 minute video that will leave you crying and smiling. Good thing we just watched Inside Out and know what two emotions are working together. Thank you Joy and Sadness.

Inside Out Rileys First Date
Riley’s First Date is far more hilarious and entertaining. If you cry at all it is because you were laughing so hard it hurt. Yeah picture a mom trying to communicate with her daughter with “hip” lingo, a dad who doesn’t trust boys until AC/DC comes into play, and a daughter just trying to keep the embarrassment factor down to a minimal. With this animated short we get to see the emotions inside the head of the father, the mother, the boy and of course Riley. In fact, I think this film is more about adult emotions than it is about the kids. Although, I have to admit, the boys emotions are hilarious. It explains so much about preteens.

Bonus features also include:

  1. Story of the Story, where Director Pete Docter talks about the evolution of Inside Out, from the ideas and memories that inspired the story through the hurdles, explorations, and experiences that helped shape it into the film it is today.
  2. Paths to Pixar: The Women of Inside Out, where Inside Out filmmakers, from voice actors to animators to production crew, talk about their career paths, their goals, the challenges they’ve faced, and the lessons they’ve learned along the way.
  3. Mixed Emotions, where Inside Out’s filmmakers talk about how they decided which emotions to focus on in the story and how they then went about creating each one’s distinct personality and visual identity.
  4. Mapping the Mind, where Inside Out’s artists take you through the years-long process of designing and creating a world everyone knows but no one has ever seen – the human mind.
  5. Our Dads, the Filmmakers, where Elie Docter, the daughter of Inside Out director Pete Docter, and Gracie Giacchino, the daughter of composer Michael Giacchino, bring you behind the scenes for an inside look at the making of the film.
  6. Into the Unknown: The Sound of Inside Out, asking the question, “What is the sound of a memory forming?” Sound designer Ren Klyce describes the challenges – and the unique solutions – involved in creating the aural world of Inside Out.
  7. The Misunderstood Art of Animation Film Editing, where we can learn more about the crucial role of the animation film editor, who helps take the story from its earliest, most exploratory versions to the final, polished film you see onscreen.
  8. Designing Abstract Thought, where Inside Out Character Art Director Albert Lozano describes the challenging, exciting, and appropriately nonlinear process of designing the film’s “Abstract Thought” sequence.
  9. Deleted scenes

and more!
Be sure to Purchase Inside Out from Amazon.com to get all the bonus features and enjoy the movie itself.

Hotel Transylvania 2 Free cubeecraft of Griffin

Griffin is a weird, cheeky invisible man. Although he is invisible, he still brings a lot of life to the party with great jokes and pranks. He often uses his invisibility to his advantage in fights but Dracula usually finds a weakness whether is be a were-pup attack with bacon or the nipple twist (not sure how he knew where to grab, it is all a mystery when it comes to Dracula’s abilities). Although Griffin is a strange character, he is there for his friends. For example, he helps bring Johnny back by driving the car to town for Dracula.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I think the weirdest part about Griffin is that for much of the movie he is naked. Yes naked. When Griffin does put on clothes, we see them. For example, he wears swim trunks in one part of Hotel Transylvania. Yet, when he gets pantsed in those very same swim trunks, he freaks out and runs away. I guess, at times, Griffin forgets he is invisible.

Griffin is a curly red headed man, or so we are told. He is often shown only wearing his glasses. He is known to wear a bow-tie or swim trunks, but most of the time he is naked. This cubeecraft depicts Griffin in his glasses and nothing more.

To Build the Cubeecraft:
There are a couple ways to make this cubeecraft.

  1. print it on cardstock and make him like a normal cubeecraft. It will just be glasses on white paper.
  2. Print the cubeecraft of thick clear paper so that when you create the cubeecraft, it is invisible. It is a little difficult but totally fun.

Materials needed:
Printer
Card stock
scissors
x-acto knife

To make the cubeecraft of Griffin:

  1. Print on Clear sheet of paper (something like this)
  2. Cut out each item along the outer Dark Gray lines
  3. Cut along the white on each tab using the x-acto knife
  4. Cut along each red line using Gray line and slide each tab into the slots you created with an x-acto knife to form a cube of the head, body, arms, and feet.
  5. Slide the arms through the red slots on either side of the body.
  6. Slide the feet through the red slots at the base of the body.
  7. Slide the head through the red lots of the now completed body.

Griffin is now complete. To download the template click the image below and save them to your computer.

Hotel Transylvania 2 Free cubeecraft of Wayne

Over worked and over-run with endless litters of pups, Wayne is a stressed and tired werewolf. He gets very little sleep even when he is on vacation. However, He loves Hotel Transylvania because he has the opportunity to leave the wife (Wanda) with the kids and run off with Dracula, Murray, Griffin and Frank to have some fun. Don’t worry he does his daddy duties as well. He has changed enough diapers to kill his sense of smell.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When it comes to being a frightening werewolf, Wayne is more like a dog, chasing Frisbees and tennis balls. He does have a frightful howl but the monster side of him was lost so long ago, he can’t really remember how to be mean. 300 of his kids , however, run wild and create chaos. Winnie can be destructive as well, sometimes needing to be spritzed with water, but she has more respect for her father.
Wayne wears a blue shirt with a striped tie and brown pants. He has tired yellow eyes and brownish fur.
To Build the Cubeecraft:
Materials needed:
Printer
Card stock
scissors
x-acto knife
To make the cubeecraft of Wayne:
  1. Cut out each item along the outer black lines
  2. Cut along the white on each tab using the x-acto knife
  3. Using the x-acto knife, carefully cut along the white by his ears and cheeks
  4. Cut along each red line using the x-acto knife
  5. Fold along each inner solid black line and slide each tab into the slots you created with an x-acto knife to form a cube of the head, body, arms, and feet. Be sure you do not fold down the ears or the cheeks. they will stick up and out.
  6. Slide the arms through the red slots on either side of the body.
  7. Slide the feet through the red slots at the base of the body.
  8. Slide the head through the red lots of the now completed body.
Wayne is now complete. To download the template click the image below and save them to your computer.
Free Halloween Coloring Page Featuring Cryptogrif from Slugterra
This Halloween I am creating 5 different coloring pages featuring Ghouled Slugs from slugterra. Today’s Slug is 5 of 5 featuring the Cryptogrif!
The Cryptogrif or “Zombus” is the ghouled version of the Hypnogrif slug. They have a pinkish belly and deep blue color body. Cryptogrif has sharp teeth and red spiral eyes but that is not the scariest thing about this slug, Cryptogrif can turn people into mindless zombies. While you will not become the type of zombie desiring human flesh and brains, being hit or mesmerized by one of these nasty slugs will make you fall victim to Mind Control.
Halloween Cryptogrif Slug from Slugterra SKGaleana image
Poor Pronto has fallen victim to this slug, becoming a mindless zombie, doing the bidding of Mr. Saturday. It was not a pretty site for Pronto or Eli, Trixie and Kord. However, even under mind control, Pronto still is his quirky self.
Free Halloween Trick or Treat Surprises!
It’s that time of year again where kids go door to door shouting “Trick or Treat” and collecting candy from all the neighbors. Man I miss those days. It is just not Halloween without the thrill of collecting free stuff and bags full of candy. I suppose that is why we have kids, to still have the right to collect candy.
Or so I used to think. Thanks to a fairy, I may have changed my mind a bit in the whole “Trick or Treating is for kids” idea.
One year I had a woman dressed as a fairy come to my door and say Trick or Treat. She then proceeded to explain that her child was sick and that she was collecting candy for her little one to enjoy. Honestly, while I stood there looking at the fairy, a few thoughts hit me in the head:
  1. Her poor Kid is missing out on Halloween
  2. Wait..Does she really have a kid…
  3. Could Trick or Treating actually be for adults and not just for kids? I mean, last I checked, this wasn’t a box of Trix cereal.
  4. Could all adults claim to have a sick kid and collect free candy? (is that even morally right?)
  5. Do we have to claim anything? Could we just Trick or Treat without the worry of being judged?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have yet to get answers to my questions of trick or treating as an adult. Really, I am short enough that, if I wanted, I could put a mask on and walk up to houses and get free candy. No one would know. So far, however, I have left it to the kids. I am more into throwing a Halloween Bash with ghoulish treats and drinks. Although, I do feel a ping of regret that I no longer get the thrill of collecting free stuff.
With that being said, I figured there were others like me. And in an effort to give us a small “trick-or-treat thrill,” I have created your own Trick or Treating experience! Simply ring the doorbells by clicking the buttons and get a special surprise. But be warned, some may be tricks and not treats. Mwahahahahaha
