What the Flerken! Captain Marvel came out on DVD, Blu-ray, and 4k June 11 and I have yet to write a review. Imagine my surprise when I found no evidence of my opinion on the origin story of Carol Danvers (aka Captain Marvel). I watched my geek-o-meter fall in points today. Time to bring it back up thanks to Disney providing a blu-ray copy for me to watch.

“Captian Marvel” begins in the midst of a Kree-Skrull war with Vers (Carol Danvers) as a Starforce Pilot for the Kree. During this time she is faced with strange superpowers and shattered flashbacks of a previous life. But things really get interesting when she is captured by the Skrull and forced to relive certain parts of her unknown past from Go-kart crashes to USA air-force training. I have to admit, it is epic to see her standing there in her pilot uniform.
Needless to say, Vers has a crazy escape from the Skrull involving superpowers, depressurization, and a damaged escape pod, which crashes to Earth in 1995 into the most iconic building of the time. Ask any 90s kid where they rented their DVDs and VHSs and they will say ‘Blockbuster’. Marvel knew the nostalgic feels this Blockbuster building would create in many of their fans and used it to help their viewers connect to the film.(*Toys-R-Us” buildings will have a similar affect in a few years).
Now this is when the film gets very fun. Everything that made the 90s epic have all been included into Captain Marvel. We get a chase scene of mass proportions with trains, cars, shape-shifters, and an amnesiac Kree pilot, Vers.. We also get to see old cars, check out the 90s style, hear 90s music, view old computers, and even watch the ever popular loading bar as we wait along with the cast for an important black box recording.
This black box message helps Vers recall her other life as Carol Danvers and thus the goal of saving a race, saving her friends, and saving the world begins. It also starts the discovery of new creatures like the Flerken, which Fury seems to love even though it has tentacles that shoot out of it’s mouth. Of course, it’s all fun and games until someone loses an eye.
Captain Marvel is very action set with so much 90s nostalgic moments that I found myself laughing and enjoying every second. It was nice to see some of the history of the Avengers and learn more about Fury. Mostly, It was just a wonderful trip down memory lane…with a cat.

The announcements were made during the DreamWorks Animation TV Studio Focus presentation at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival, which also included updates from the studio on the critically-acclaimed Netflix original series She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, as well as the original series Kung Fu Panda: The Paws of Destiny for Prime Video. Kung Fu Panda: The Paws of Destiny is also competition in the TV Films category at the festival. King Norm and the indestructible Lemmings are back in an all new adventure, Norm of the North King Sized Adventure, available on DVD and Blu-Ray June 11th! I received a copy to watch and review and I found that this time this lovable clumsy polar bear is now learning his kingly duties and making sure that he is a leader worth looking up to.

King Norm learns from his grandpa that being a king means keeping your word, no matter what. What he says is a promise and must be delivered. Such a wonderful lesson is comically delivered throughout the film as Norm promises to deliver an ancient Chinese artifact to Beijing and somehow make it back in six days to officiate his grandpa’s wedding. With the Lemmings following close behind and an evil Dexter looking to sell the artifact for big bucks things are bound to go wrong.

And wrong they go. From the very beginning, loyal urinating Lemmings cause cave ins, hectically fly helicopters, and somehow after all their crazy movements, manage to get airsick as Norm pilots the helicopter to Beijing. However, even though they make each situation a little more difficult, true to their Lemming words, they end up saving their friends from crazy lizards and maniacal villains. Way to Go Lemmings. If they are not a favorite animal now, they will be soon.
Trying to help their friend, King Norm, proves to be a little more dangerous than planned. Good thing they are indestructible.
Even with all his troubles, clumsy steps, and the evil Dexter, King Norm never gives up. His whole goal through the film is to keep his word and show others that he is a trustworthy king. While Keeping his word is not easy, it is important, and King Norm makes sure to teach those around him how important it is to say what you mean and mean what you say.
Norm of the North King Sized Adventure makes Indian Jones look like child’s play with a large spiky rock.
This King Sized Adventure is never ending and non-stop, with crazy helicopter acrobatics, Indiana Jones like tests, komodo dragon battles, and a fun dance party. The lesson is well thought out and on stage front and center. For the adults there are even some fun pop culture refreshes that will make us laugh. Norm of the North King Sized Adventure is truly fun for the whole family.

It is always incredibly humbling and empowering to realize that with every seed I plant, I am part of a human tradition stretching back thousands of years. Your parents ate fruits and vegetables, your grandparents ate fruits and vegetables, and back and back and back! Thousands of years ago when the fields were watered bucket by bucket, seeds were being coaxed into abundance by a farmer. Every bite of leafy greens you eat was grown by someone. That lettuce was planted by someone. That cucumber was cared for by someone. That broccoli was harvested by someone. A plate of veggies is the culmination of an entire season of love!
Gardening is not just a wonderful way to connect with our roots (…I regret nothing!) it is also good for us. Playing in the dirt is healthy. According to the researchers at Rockefeller University in New York City and Swansea University Medical School in the United Kingdom, plain old dirt has microorganisms that are incredibly effective against a wide range of harmful bacteria, including MRSA. Not only that, Christopher Lowry, a neuroscientist at the University of Bristol, found that dirt actually acts as an antidepressant! By playing in the dirt we boost our immune system, aid our mental health, and grow delicious, nutritious, food.
