A Stork’s Journey is Coming to DVD

After a Sparrow loses his parents before he has even hatched, his life takes on a strange new adventure when he is raised by storks in A Stork’s Journey, coming to DVD July 4th.

~~~SPOILERS BELOW~~~~
A Storks Journey begins with a happy sparrow family getting ready for their egg to hatch. However, the wild is a dangerous place and a happy story can quickly turn into a tragedy. Before they get to see their beloved baby, Richard, they are eaten. Oh yes, you read that right. A Stork’s Journey begins with a Tarzan scenario where both parents become dinner. While the eating of the parents is not shown, it is hinted at with the fluttering of small feathers in the wind. FYI: Be prepared to explain what happened to them. More than likely you will get the question. “What happened mommy?” once the parents vanish.
I will admit, the whole “parents die” theme is getting kind of old. At first I had a hard time getting into this movie. I understand that there needs to be a tragic backstory so that the sparrow can think he is a stork. However, the theme is over used and bordering on cliche. It seems a journey to self discovery simply can’t happen without some sort of parent annihilation. And the tragic story doesn’t end there.
After the death of his parents and a summer of fun as a stork, his adoptive Stork mother leaves him to fend for himself during the harsh winter. While this doesn’t sound too bad, it actually is horrible. This cute little sparrow thinks he is a stork and has no idea how to act like a sparrow. So his adoptive family basically leaves him for dead, which almost happens until a mentally disturbed oversize Pygmy owl named Olga saves his life.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

While the first 20 minutes of A Stork’s Journey is a tragedy-happy-tragedy sandwich, the rest of the plot does get a little more interesting and funny, ending with a wonderful moral.

As Richard makes his way to Africa to be with his family, he runs into all kinds of strange characters. In fact, I am not sure he ever meets anyone “normal”. For example, he meets pigeons who are obsessed with the online world. They grab a hold of the cable wires and their brains are digitized…actually it might be more accurate to say their brains are fried…haha. No matter what happens to their brains, they are just as crazy as Olga, and yet just as helpful in their own way.

With all the shenanigans and hilarious characters, it is possible to miss the biggest part of this movie, the moral of the story. It turns out that the moral of this story is “be yourself.” No matter who you are, you can still do great and amazing things. Take Olga for example. She is an extra-large Pygmy owl that has been made fun of and bullied most of her life. She creates an imaginary friend to help her cope and she develops a crazy personality. However, she is always there to help a friend and because she is large in stature, she is able to help Richard make the journey to Africa. By accepting her size and who she is, Olga goes on to do great things. Her so-called handicap is actually her greatest strength.

I personally love what A Stork’s Journey teaches. The moral makes up for the first 20 minutes of the movie, which makes A Stork’s Journey worth a watch for the entire family. It is, after all, Dove Family Approved for all ages.

I give it a 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Free Printable Coloring Page of Tenasher from Slugterra

Tenasher is a rare slug, which debuted in the popular game Slugterra: Slug it out 2. He is a Crocodile type slug that features a gigantic mouth, which turns out is perfect for eating slugs or taking a large bite out of their opponent. In protoform, Tenasher is a rainbow of purple, blues, greens, and pinks. He has a large snout and a Crocodile-like belly. He also features spines down his back like a stegosaurus. So it might be prudent to say that he is half crocodile and half dinosaur. In Velocimorph form, Tenasher changes to all mouth. His large mouth takes up most of his form making him look like a weirdly beautiful Crocodile or scary T-Rex head. I am sure, if his opponents were not frozen with fear, they would flee at the mere sight of Tenasher.

In Slugterra: Slug it out 2, Tenasher uses his “eating Slugs” ability to eat his opponents slugs while flying through the air. For every slug Tenasher eats, he gains more slug energy. This makes him very similar to Makobreaker, except for way more colorful.

For more information about Tenasher see the specs below. Then grab the free coloring page and color your own Tenasher.

Many of these stats are assumptions. There is little known about the new slugs until the slugterra database is updated. I did find a few details from http://slugterra.wikia.com. Again they are unofficial, but they are possibilities.

    Baby Groot Cookie Recipe

    I was perusing the Disney Family, checking out their new crafts and recipes when I stumbled upon the cutest cookies one will ever see featuring Baby Groot! I have to say, I am in love. To quote Family Disney,

    It’s fair to say that Baby Groot stole the show in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 2 with his all-around cuteness and devotion to his friends. Why not bring a little of this adorable character into your kitchen with these Baby Groot-inspired cookies?! He Is Groot, after all. family.disney.com

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    I was concerned that these baby Groot cookies would be hard to eat. I mean, who can take a bite out of Baby Groot? My family, apparently, because they went fast. So, even maximum cuteness doesn’t stop the eating of a yummy cookie.

    Note: This recipe is a little more difficult than the usual Disney Family Recipe, meaning that we have to make the cookies from scratch. Usually we find recipes on Family Disney that tell you to buy the dough, this time we can make it ourselves…I love that! So it is a little more work, but oh so delicious!

    Baby Groot Cookies

    Ingredients

    • 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
    • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
    • 1 tablespoon ground ginger
    • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
    • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
    • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted brown butter, room temperature
    • 1/2 cup packed dark brown sugar
    • 1 large egg
    • 1/2 cup molasses For Icing
    • 2 cups powdered sugar
    • 2-3 tablespoons milk
    • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • Black, green, and brown food coloring

    Photo and recipe from family.disney.com
    Directions

    1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and salt. Set aside.
    2. In an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat the butter and sugar together for 2 minutes on medium-high speed until light and fluffy. Add in eggs and molasses, and beat on medium speed until combined. Reduce mixer speed to low, and gradually add the flour mixture until just combined.
    3. Form dough into a disc and wrap tightly in plastic wrap, and chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or overnight.
    4. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Unwrap the dough and place it on a large, lightly-floured hard surface. Use a floured rolling pin to roll the dough 1/8-inch thick. Cut out Groot cookies using a template. I found one online. Transfer to parchment-covered baking sheets.
    5. Bake for 7-9 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
    6. To Decorate: Whisk all ingredients together in a bowl until smooth. If your icing is too thin, add in a little more powdered sugar. Divide icing into 3 bowls and make each color.
    7. Use a piping bag, or a ziplock bag (with the corner snipped off), to pipe the icing onto the cookies. For Groot’s details, I used black icing for this eyes and mouth. Added vines around his body with brown icing and used green icing for the leaves.

    Whisker Haven Tales Coloring Page of a Police Officer

    This pooch may look like a fun loving little guy, but break the law and you will find yourself in deep kibble. The Police Officer Critterzen is from Whisker Haven in the spin off of Princess Palace Pets. Not much is known about this lawful dog, but I can venture a guess. Perhaps this pouch is a very important police office that enjoys the occasional kibble Doughnut at the local cafe. He keeps all the Whisker Haven pets and Critterzen safe from unlawful characters and the occasional disaster. With out him, grass would be trampled, speed limits would be broken, and tiaras would be lost forever.

    Yu-Gi-Oh! The Dark Side of Dimensions {SPOILERS}

    BE ADVISED: THERE ARE SPOILERS IN THIS REVIEW

    For the 20th anniversary of Yu-Gi-Oh!, the much beloved characters Yugi Muto, Seto Kaiba, Joey Wheeler, Tristan Taylor, Téa Gardner, and Bakura return to the scene in the all new animated feature, Yu-Gi-Oh!: The Dark Side of Dimensions on Digital HD today and Blu-ray/DVD June 27. A decade in the making, Yu-Gi-Oh!: The Dark Side of Dimensions, features brand new designs and an all new story by the creator of this global phenomenon, Kazuki Takahashi! It may be a cliche to say this, but…THE BAND IS BACK TOGETHER!

    Of course I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to review this feature and I am here to tell you, you wont be disappointed. It was the nostalgic story I was looking for, complete with danger, friendship, and of course, a new way to play the game with battles that transcend time and space.

    The movie begins with the iconic view of KaibaCorp where Seto is staring at a hologram of the Millennium Puzzle. Seto plans to find the puzzle pieces and resurrect Pharaoh Atem, the only being to defeat him in battle…so he thinks. Already, we find ourselves intertwined into Seto’s quest to be the ultimate duelist in Duel Monsters. With absolute determination to make his plan a reality, Seto uses KaibaCorp resources to find the pieces to the Millennium Puzzle However, Seto is interrupted by Diva. After a brand new type of duel called “Dimension Dueling,” Diva steals two pieces of the puzzle and gives one to his sister in order to prevent the Pharaoh from returning. Unbeknownst to Diva, his sister gives her piece to Yugi in hopes that Yugi can save her brother.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    There is an unspoken rule in Yu-Gi-Oh, all problems must be solved with a duel, where the winner gets everything. Because of the theft of these two Millennium Puzzle pieces, Seto kidnaps Yugi and Diva and forces them into a match; winner takes all. Here fans get to see an all new playing field, an all new duel disk, and brand new creature cards. WOOT! Not to mention that this brand new field is taken into the “Realm of Dimensions” for Dimension Dueling.

    Unfortunately, Yugi is a noob to Dimension Dueling and he must learn as he goes in order to save his friends. And let me tell you, Dimension Dueling is no easy matter…or is that antimatter? Whatever the case, in order to summon a monster, the dueler must infuse some of his/her spirit energy into the monster to give it the power the dueler so desires. The problem is, when the monster is defeated, the dueler than takes damage equal to the power given..OUCH.

    Like much of the Yu-Gi-Oh’s TV series and movies, the main theme of Yu-Gi-Oh!: The Dark Side of Dimensions is built on friendship. Yugi will do anything to help, defend, and save his friends. The whole reason he gets pulled into the new Dimension Duels is due to the dangers his friends could and are suffering. Bakura and Joey both suffer at the hands of Diva and Yugi does everything in his power to help them. That is what I have always liked about Yu-Gi-Oh, no matter what, Yugi will always be there for his friends. It is a good message for viewers and a great base for any series.

    Total everything up, and Yu-Gi-Oh!: The Dark Side of Dimensions is am awesome nod to everything Yu-Gi-Oh is, has been, and stands for. The battles, the characters, and the story reflect what fans have come to love about Yu-Gi-Oh. I personally give it 5 stars! I know I will be watching it again.

    Guardians of the Galaxy Printable Father’s Day Cards

    With Father’s day just around the corner I thought it would be a great time to give some love to the most Galactic fathers in the Galaxy, Ego and Yondu from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. While they may not be the “best” fathers in the galaxy, Ego and Yondu have earned their title as Father. One for being the actual blood relative the other for adopting Peter so that Ego couldn’t get his god-like hands on him to destroy the little kid.

    Of course each have their faults. Yondu keeps threatening to kill the boy while Ego actually tries. It is a good thing that Peter has a new family with the Guardians, Groot, Rocket, Gamora, and Drax. Seriously, he needs some support.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Anyway, the father’s day cards below are free to download, then just print, create, sign and give to your father for father’s day.

    The cards feature:
    Baby Groot with “Happy Father’s Day from your cutest kid”
    Ego with “Thanks for not being an Ego. Happy Father’s Day”
    Yondu with “Happy Father’s Day to one Crazy Dad”

    To download the cards simply click the images below and save the PDF to your computer.

    To Make:
    1. Print the card out on regular paper
    2. Cut out along the Outer black boarder.
    3. Fold the card in half along the center Line above the front image
    4. Fold the card in half again along the center line to the side of the front picture. Be sure the front image is facing out.
    And it is done. All you have to do is sign it.

    The El Americano Movie Review by SKGaleana

    Join Cuco in his epic mission to find El Americano, the hero of his favorite TV show, to help defend his family from thugs wanting to take over his family’s circus, in the all new animated feature Americano, arriving on DVD, Digital HD and On Demand on June 13 from Lionsgate. Americano is said to be the first major U.S.-Mexico animated feature co-production, featuring voices of Rico Rodriguez, Kate Del Castillo, Cheech Marin, Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias, Golden Globe® nominee Lisa Kudrow (Best Supporting Actress, Television, “Friends”), and Academy Award® nominee Edward James Olmos (Best Supporting Actor, Stand and Deliver, 1988), in addition to radio personalities Don Cheto, El Mandril, and Argelia Atilano.

    Americano was awarded the Dove Family Seal of Approval, and after watching the film it is easy to see why. It has a simple and predictable story line that kids can follow, a few jokes for the adults in the room…when one can understand what is being said, and colorful art that will capture the imagination of all those watching the film.

    Martin & Rayito from El Americano the Movie

    I will admit, when my family and I first started watching Americano, I had a horrible time getting into it. It seemed like the beginning was dead in the water with a dull back story and several repetitive themes. After the first 30 seconds I could see the path of the film and I knew how it was going to end. Americano has a very simple story line with the main character going on a journey to find himself before realizing he has what it takes to be the hero of his own story. It isn’t a bad story line, but for adults, it’s over done. However, this is a movie for kids, and it is easy for the little ones in the room to follow. On a side note, once the crazy biker-gang entered the arena and threatened to take control of the circus, even I got sucked in to the story. It no longer mattered that I knew what was going to happen because I actually wanted to see it happen.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Americano also has a few jokes for the adults in the audience, which helped keep my interest. Americano may be geared towards a younger group of kids, but it allows us adults to a have a laugh every now and then. For example, apparently Cheech and Chong is a very powerful spell *wink* and El Americano looks very similar a very famous person in the US. However, my favorite line in the whole movie is what the bad guys say after Rayito, the hummingbird, states that Cuco and his friends went to find El Americano. The bad guys response: “They went for Coffee?” Of yeah, give me a coffee joke any day! It took a while to stop laughing.

    Rayito, the Hummingbird from El Americano

    I am sure there are other hilarious jokes, but the songs are all in Spanish and some of the characters only speak Spanish. If one has a limited background in the Spanish language, these jokes, plot twists, and hilarious songs are lost. However, with the simple story line the idea of what is happening can be understood, making the language less of a barrier. Also, the amazing colors kept everyone focused on the film no matter what was being said.

    The colors in Americano are absolutely stunning. It has to be one of the most colorful films I have seen with birds featuring purples, blues, reds, greens, yellows, and so much more. The colors alone are fascinating and spark the imagination of all those watching. I would call it mesmerizing.

    Paquito, a yellow canary from El Americano

    All in all. El Americanano is a wonderful family film and totally deserves the Dove Family Seal of Approval. Just be aware, it is a U.S.-Mexico animated feature co-production, so there is a mix of Spanish and English within the film. At times it is hard to understand but the story is easy to follow. Out of five stars I would give it a solid 3.5.

    For more information check out the official El Americano Website and read more about Americano on my blog here: Americano Story
