Picture this. It’s dark, you are inside a pizzeria, and you feel as if you are being watched. You slowly spin your body around and see the animatronic band up on stage. Freddy and his friends look normal, but they seem to be peering into your soul. Just then, the lights go off. And now you have to answer the ultimate question…Will you survive Five Nights at Freddy’s?
I know my answer. In the video game, I have hope. I can complete the tasks and do wat needs to be done to survive, In real life…I would die. The minute I was confronted by a walking monstrosity, I would freeze and become non-existent. And knowing my luck, it would be Mr. Cupcake that does me in. Death by pink frosting. hahaha
Inspired by the deadly Mr. Cupcake from Five Nights at Freddy’s, I had this burst of creativity to replicate Mr. Cupcake in IRL…minus the killer instincts. In fact, this cupcake will actually be delicious to devour.
To make Mr. Cupcake, we need:
- Unfrosted Vanilla Cupcakes
- Pink frosting
- Black writing gel
- Candy eyes
- Yellow and white spiral candle
- mini marshmallows
Can we just take a moment to realize that my pink frosting apparently has an attitude. It better not try to kill me. I am already creeped out trying to make a killer cupcake.
On to the recipe.
The unfrosted cupcakes can be store bought or homemade. I used store bought cupcakes because they were on sale. However, I have a cupcake recipe that is easy to follow in another blog post. The recipe makes some yummy vanilla cakes, which is exactly what the recipe needs. My suggestion is to make them small because large candy eyes are not easy to find in grocery stores, but it is fun to ask for them,
Me: “Do you guys sell large eyes? You know, the kind we can eat?”
Associate, ‘…blink’.
Once I clarified ‘Candy’ eyes, I was directed to the baking isle, but all they had were the standard size. Everything was also made by Betty Crocker because my store had no other choices. Betty Crocker Mr. Cupcakes it is then.
Once the cupcakes are cooked and cooled, it’s time to start the decorating. This process takes 5 minutes tops, which means we can crank out dozens of Mr. Cupcakes for our next party.
First pile pink frosting on top of the cupcake. Don’t worry about style, we will be smoothing it out into a mound. Mr. Cupcake doesn’t feature swirls, flowers, and/or beautiful edging, so just scoop and place it on the cupcake. This is perfect because I have no cake decorating skills. Let me prove just how skill-less I am. Here is a picture of my first attempt.
Yeah, he knew he looked bad. Poor thing. I am told however, that he tasted delicious.
After the frosting is piled on to make a large mound, smooth it with the flat end of a butter knife or a spatula. Again, this doesn’t have to look perfect. The more haphazard the better. I simply twisted the cupcake in my hand while I used the flat end of a butter knife.
The eyes are added next. Place them about two-thirds up the mountain of frosting. They should be facing forward, but honestly, have fun with it. Crooked eyes could make Mr. Cupcake even more creepy.
Once the eyes are placed, then it’s time to trace them with some black writing gel. I do not have a steady hand, my handwriting looks like Chica scratch. My dad always told me I should have been a doctor since my handwriting is so illegible. This flaw kinda worked out in my favor. The eyes needed a black boarder to give the illusion of eye sockets. Since Mr. Cupcake isn’t perfectly formed, my imperfect boarder actually looks great.
This is where I had a problem. If you look at the ‘what you need’ image above, what is the one item I am missing? Hint: It-is something Mr. Cupcake needs to look like Mr. Cupcake. Yup, I forgot the marshmallows. I had plans to cut the mini marshmallows in half lengthwise and placing them at the bottom of the frosting for teeth. Woops. On the plus side, the candy eyes are flat and solid white on the back. Crisis averted. I took two candies and turned them around to make teeth. Creativity and problem solving at it’s finest!
Final touch, after the build, is to jab a candle through the top of the frosting and into the cake.
Mr. Cupcake is now done!
Use the recipe below to make your own cupcakes. Don’t forget to download the Five Nights at Freddy’s printables I made as well. There are cupcake wrappers and toppers for larger cupcakes, pizza holder, maze, follow-me-eyes poster craft, banner, and more!
