Anyone from the 90s knows and, more-than-likely, loves the first Good Burger movie starring Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell. When it comes to burgers, fries, and two not-so-bright employees, Good Burger brings down the house in fun and laughter. But what happens to Ed and Dex after Good Burger? Well, in 2023, fans learned exactly what has happened to our favorite two characters 26 years later.
Good Burger 2 is available on Digital, and it will be available on Blu-ray and DVD on March 26 from Paramount Home Entertainment and Nickelodeon Home Entertainment, for the suggested retail price of $19.99 (Blu-ray ™) and $12.99 (DVD).
Thanks to Nickelodeon, I got the chance to review Good Burger 2 and here is what I thought.
WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW
Let me start out by saying Good Burger is a classic. Kenan and Kel are the perfect duo to bring Ed and Dex to life. Good Burger 2 picks up where we left off our duo in 1997. Performed by the same crazy duo, Kenan and Kel once again grace the screen asking fans, “Welcome to Good Burger, home of the Good Burger! Can I take your order?”
In Good Burger 2, we find Ed (Kel) still working at Good Burger, but now he owns the place. He still has a love for the fast food restaurant, so much so, that even his family and their home emulate all that is Good Burger. His kids’ names also reflect his Burger love: Pickles, No Mayo and Baby Bun Bun. All in all, Ed’s life is a success. Dex, on the other hand, went into the business world, owning Dextreme Industries. However, the collapse of his business leads him back to the smell of greasy fries and a stripe uniform. Yup, Dexter must return to work at Good Burger.
You can imagine, this return to Dex’s home turf isn’t exactly enjoyable. Dex wishes for something more. So when a chance to sell the Good Burger and make a profit off his friend’s success arises, Dex jumps at the chance. This of course leads to an absolute disaster making Good Burger an employee’s nightmare.
How does this movie compare to the database that we have today? I will be honest, Good Burger 2 rides the coattails of nostalgia. It relies on a fanbase to come and enjoy something that they loved as kids. In this aspect, Good Burger 2 is a perfect stupid-fun movie that every 90s kid will enjoy watching. Kenan and Kel bring back the sentimentality that Good Burger delivered all those years ago. Those who have never seen Good Burger may not understand the comic genius found within Good Burger 2. However, us Good Burger fans will enjoy the movie as we laugh at the jokes, find the Easter eggs, and enjoy the capability of shutting off our brains to watch a simple movie.
For what it is, a sequel to a stupidly fun classic, this movie deserves a nod from all the 90s kids out there. Great job Nickelodeon.
