I received the chance to review these DVDs and here is what I thought.

Let’s start with the obvious, this collection is the most SpongeBob of SpongeBobiness! Everything fans love can be found within these DVDs. We have our favorite Bikini Bottom members as they deal with their own insanity. I think we can all agree, all of the citizens of Bikini Bottom are crazy in some way. At this point, I believe that is their normal. This insanity started in Season 1 and has continued through to season 13.

SpongeBob SquarePants: The Complete Thirteenth Season includes the insanity we have come to expect and love, which includes the touching Christmas episode, SpongeBob’s Road to Christmas. This episode features lost presents, Plankton and his evil plans, Patrick Star and his weirdness, SpongeBob and his kindness gone awry, and so much more. Basically SpongeBob hopes to give Santa a present, but it gets lost. 7 months later, SpongeBob finds it and has this sudden urge to deliver it to Santa. With the help of his friends and a rather small enemy, SpongeBob SquarePants eventually makes it to the North Pole to deliver his present. And like many of the episodes we find in the SpongeBob Universe, this episode refuses to end on an “awww” moment, and instead ends with attacking coal powered robots. Oh What fun it is to watch a SpongeBob episode tonight.

Some of the episodes in Season 13 also include characters from Kamp Koral. This series is a bit confusing until you stop trying to make a timeline of events. Welcome to the Spider-Verse SpongeBob style. Fans have to take Kamp Koral episodes at face value and just enjoy the short non-existent or congruent story lines. I think this series is perfect for those who love watching recognizable characters and don’t care about how the episodes fit into the world of SpongeBob SquarePants.

Of course three SpongeBob series collide in The Tidal Zone: A SpongeBob Universe Special. The third series stars the ever lovable but not that bright, Patrick Star, in The Patrick Star Show. We meet Patrick’s family and get to watch his weird world. Like the first half of the season, The Patrick Star Show: Season 1, Volume 2 continues the absurd fun that Patrick provides. I think this series is a great way to expand the character of SpongeBob’s best friend. Does it fit in with the original universe? Probably not, but hey, it is fun to watch!

For SpongeBob SquarePants fans, these DVDs will be a blast to watch and make a perfect present under the tree.
