I got the chance to review Star Trek: Prodigy: Season 1 Volume 1 and here is what I thought.

Get ready for Star Trek from the eyes of a young crew travelling the stars with guidance from one of my favorite captains, Janeway, as a hologram. Like Voyager, Dal, Gwyn, Jankom Pogm, Zero. Rok-Tahk, and Murf make their way towards the Alpha Quadrant all while trying to keep the ship in one piece, escaping a time traveling Vau N’Akat known as The Diviner, and trying to work together to make something of their cadet Starfleet life.

Star Trek: Prodigy is meant for a young audience with the characters learning morals and going through growing pains. The show teaches working together, empathy, the importance of research, listening to those who can help, and more. But while these are common themes throughout the show, adults will find there is a lot for them as well. Star Trek: Prodigy may look like a kids show, but it feels very adult. We get fantastic character growth, wonderful voice acting, and tons of easter eggs from past series that fans will find. For example, in Terror Firma, did anyone catch the shape of the Exocomps? I know I was excited to see them!

We also get a wonderful antagonist who is bent on stopping the Federation from meeting his people on Solum in an effort to stop a world ending civil war. The Diviner travels back in time, through a wormhole, and searches out the Protostar, the ship our crazy crew just-so-happens to be flying. It is a long arc to the series and one the audience will enjoy. Personally, I have always liked a “bad guy” that believed he was doing good. It creates a well rounded character.

The art, they stories, and the easter eggs makes Star Trek: Prodigy Season 1, Volume 1 and amazing series and fun to watch. I love the character developments, the amazing colors, and even the morals the show teaches. It’s fantastic that it caters to both kids and adults. I give Star Trek: Prodigy Season 1, Volume 1 five stars!
