    The Best DIY Advent Calendar!

    Advent Calendars are one of the most fun creations i have had the pleasure of enjoying. Getting a gift a day is never frowned upon, especially when you are a kid. I remember waking up every morning with expectations to a piece of chocolate, toy, or maybe even a folded paper dollar. It was 24 days of excitement.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Now, Advent Calendars are everywhere. Even Legos has their own special Star Wars Advent Calendars that are too die for. It comes with 24 Mini Figurines including a Rebel Snowman.

    Of course, Star Wars may no be on everyone’s list (GASP) and I know I love the personal touch. So making an Advent Calendar is certainly the way to go and takes only a small bit of effort.

    INSTRUCTIONS:

    1. First find the toys, candy, or whatever else you want to hid inside the Advent Calendar. It can be anything small. In this case, Hatchimals are Madelyn’s toy of the year and this set of 24 Hatchimal eggs makes the perfect toys to stuff in the Advent Calendar.

    2. Make 48 Origami boxes. Why 48? Well These awesome little boxes are going to need tops. So in order to have a lid, two need to be made. The video below is perfect for those who need to learn how to make a box.

      See, are they not the cutest?!?!

    3. Fill the cute boxes with the toys, or in this case Hatchimal eggs.

    4. Write Numbers in the boxes and form into a tree. The numbers can be mixed or in numerical order. And TADA, It is done. Get ready for some epic daily presents!

    Holly Star is a Treasure Hunt for Love

    Get ready for an all new Christmas adventure involving paintballs, puppets, pilfering grandparents, and of course a powerful Christmas kiss when “Holly Star” arrives on DVD and Digital Dec 4th. After losing her job as a puppeteer, Sloan returns home where she has a near death experience and her life flashes before her eyes. Before she knows it she goes on a crazy treasure hunt to find a huge bag of money that Santa buried. Sloan drags her paintball-obsessed best friend, her tango-dancing grandmother and her childhood sweetheart in on the treasure hunt as the mystery unfolds.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    SPOILERS BELOW

    Like many recent Christmas movies, Holly Star features the ever endearing cliche theme of a career girl (Sloan) returning to her small town home where she is in search of another job or something better. Being that Holly Star is a Christmas movie, Sloan finds a temporary job at a Christmas Tree Lot where an old flame is taking over the family business.

    What may not be considered Cliche is the side story of a treasure hunt. After a near death experience brings forgotten memories forward, Sloan believes she saw Santa bury treasure somewhere in town. Sloan’s entire goal is to find this treasure… even if it means attempting another near death experience. Oh yes, picture a crazy best-friend on a murder/death/kill pretend…possibly real… quest. There are several scenes where I was almost on the floor laughing. For example, KK, Sloam’s best friend, tries to kill her with a car. I think at that moment, KK loses all control and goes on a rampage.

    ~~~~~SPOILERS OF ENDING BELOW~~~~~~
    Of course, any decent Christmas movie will show that the greatest treasure in the world isn’t money or gold, but love, friendship, and family. Holly Star follows through with the holiday expectations and leads the audience to a warm closure… For the most part. It may not be very Christmasy of me, but I wanted to see the whole treasure hunt get completed and for everyone she cares about to stand there in shock thinking, “Wow, the Lobster Wars did exist.”
    This story was very fun to watch even if it was a bit cliche. I would say Holly Star is worth a peek for a good laugh. Check out the trailer below and get ready to watch Holly Star Dec. 4th.
Enchanting from start to finish, it’s the perfect adventure for families during the holidays.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Full of wonder and adventure, The House With a Clock in its Walls mesmerizes audiences of all ages and keeps the magic alive when stars Jack Black (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Kung Fu Panda), Cate Blanchett (Ocean’s 8, Thor: Ragnarok) and Owen Vaccaro (Daddy’s Home, Mother’s Day) arrive as Uncle Jonathan, Mrs. Zimmerman and Lewis Barnavelt. In the most unexpected places, fantastical events, miraculous twists and suspense filled moments ensue in this “zany kids adventure” (The Hollywood Reporter) that soon captivates adults as well. In the tradition of Amblin classics, master frightener and director Eli Roth’s The House With a Clock in its Walls is a family-friendly fantasy film that “stands alongside the ‘just for kids’ classics of the 1980’s and 1990’s” (Forbes).
    In The House With a Clock in its Walls directed by Eli Roth (The Green Inferno, Cabin Fever), Lewis Barnavelt (Vaccaro) goes to live with his Uncle Jonathan (Black) in a creaky and creepy mansion with an eerie tick-tocking heart. But when Lewis soon finds out he’s in the presence of magic practiced by his uncle and neighbor Mrs. Zimmerman (Blanchett), his new town’s dreary aura boosts to life in an exciting and dangerous way. Based on the beloved children’s classic book written by John Bellairs and illustrated by Edward Gorey, The House With a Clock in its Walls is written by Eric Kripke (creator of TV’s “Supernatural”) and co-stars Kyle MacLachlan (“Twin Peaks,” Inside Out), Colleen Camp (Clue), Renée Elise Goldsberry (“One Life to Live”), and Sunny Suljic (Mid90s, The Killing of a Sacred Deer). It is produced by Mythology Entertainment’s Brad Fischer (Shutter Island) and James Vanderbilt (Zodiac), as well as Kripke.
  • It’s all about Piper and Lava in the New Pixar Collection
    Pixar Short Films Collection Volume 3 has been released on DVD, blu-Ray and Digitally this week. It contains thirteen short films including “Piper”, which was the Best Animated Oscar Winner from 2016. This collection also includes some of my favorite animated short films that have been released over the last few years, such as Lou and Lava.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    I received a copy of Pixar Short Films Collection Volume 3 and thought I would share my thoughts on the set.
    First off, this collection is far more upbeat than Pixar Short Films Volume 2. Death and hexes are almost non-existent, which makes this collection a bit more child friendly. With Partysaurus Rex, Riley’s First Date, The Legend of Mor’Du, Lava, The Radiator Springs 500 1/2, Lou, and of course Piper, these beautiful fun shorts will capture the imagination of all who watch them. Of course, Piper and Lava are the true reasons to own this collection. I love these two shorts and I am very glad we can now own them.
    What’s is awesome about this collection of Pixar Films is the special bonuses. There is interesting commentary on each of these shorts where the creators and animators explain their reasoning for making these stories and what it took to turn them into a masterpiece. While this part usually ends up boring the kids in the audience, us adults are free to watch these when we have time.
    Other than the fun shorts, there is also two mini movies included in this collection: “Marine Life Interviews” and “Miss Fritter’s Racing Skoool.” These are also fun to watch and feature characters from two well know Disney/Pixar movies, “FInding Dory” and “Cars 3.’
    I am extremely happy with this collection and the more upbeat attitude it presents. As always, be sure to watch the shorts before you sit your kids down to view them, a couple of these may be a little much for them to understand. However, with Lava and Piper included, this collection can’t go wrong.
    SPONSORED: Dreamworks She-Ra Princess of Power Surprise
    SPONSORED by Dreamworks
    Dreamworks She-Ra Princess of Power is being released tomorrow on Netflix! I am especially excited to see this series. If they do as good of a job as they did with Voltron, this is sure to be a wonderful adaptation of the classic She-ra. In anticipation of the upcoming release, Dreamworks sent out a fun She-ra kit featuring many of the characters from the new series. My family absolutely loves this kit with the buttons, crafts, tiara, character cards, and cape!
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    First off, this kit came in with “SHE-RA’ right on the front of the box. Already the excitement was building and everyone wanted to know what wax inside this fun colorful box. I mean, who could resist opening it? I was lucky to get a picture.
    Inside was a treasure trove of items that spilled out of the box in a sparkly She-ra explosion. We found pins, collector cards, a tiara, and a fun DIY Sword of Protection craft.
    Usually when kits like this arrive, they are of cheaper quality made to simply advertise the show and move on. But Dreamworks likes to take it a step above the rest with their items and make sure quality is a major factor. For example, the collector cards are on thick glossy paper about 4 times the size of a trading card. They have wonderful colorful images with interesting facts about each character on the back.
    This slideshow requires JavaScript.
    The DIY Sword of Protection craft was and is awesome. Dreamworkd provided much of the items to make the sword worthy of a princess complete with Glitter and 3D Puff Paint. I was actually able to get scanned images of the craft before the scissors, glitter, and glue went flying around the room. Now you can create the craft to!
    What you will need:
  • Cardboard
  • Colored cardstock
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Double Stick Tape
  • Glue
  • 3-D Puff Paint
  • Glitter
  • Markers
  • Instructions
    1. Print the template 3 times. Print One on plain white cardstock, Print two of each on the color of cardstock you want your blade and grip to be.
    2. Cut out the white cardstock pattern and arrange them on a cardboard sheet to form the sword. Trace around the templates on to the cardboard and cut out the cardboard sword.
    3. Cut out your color cardstock pieces. Put glue on the back side and attach them to the corresponding blade and grip pieces on both sides of the sword.
    The Sword of Protection is now done!
    To get a copy of the templates click the image below and save the PDF to your computer. Than print and create to make your own Sword of Protection.
    Thank you Dreamworks for the awesome She-Ra Princess of Power Kit!
    Vampirina Fang-Tastic Ice Scream Recipe
    Today, Vampirina: Ghoul Girls Rock! is Jamming its way to Disney DVD! You can read more about the DVD and my review in a previous blog post called Vampirina: Ghoul Girls Rock! is Fang-tastic!.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    In celebration of Disney Junior’s Vampirina collection being released on Disney DVD, Disney Junior has provided a wonderfully Fang-tastic recipe the whole family is sure to devour, “Vampirina’s Ice Scream.”
    The recipe requires:
  • 2 ounces of black candy melts
  • Batwing template (do a simple google search to find one that fits)
  • Strawberry ice cream
  • Purple Ube ice cream
  • Chocolate cookies, crushed
  • Pink heart sprinkles
  • To get a copy of the recipe click the image below and save the PDF to your computer. Than print and create for some yummy Vampirina Ice Scream
    Vampirina: Ghoul Girls Rock! is Fang-tastic!
    Follow Vampirina and her two best friends, Poppy and Bridget, as they take the stage and start their very own band: the Ghoul Girls! Cheer them on as they travel to Transylvania for their first-ever talent competition and go on many more awesome adventures! Amped with six music-filled episodes, plus seven bonus animated shorts, Vampirina: Ghoul Girls Rock! soars to fang-tastic new heights as Vee and her friends learn how to find their inner ghoul and rock out! Vampirina: Ghoul Girls Rock! arrives homes on Disney DVD November 6th.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    In anticipation of Vampirina: Ghoul Girls Rock! coming to DVD, I was able to get a copy to review.
    The episodes included in the Vampirina: Ghoul Girls Rock! DVD are all about accepting difference, embracing what makes us unique, and learning how to be great friends. Vampirina takes popular themes to connect with their audience and teaches life lessons needed to get along with others. From the beginning my family has been a fan of this Disney Junior TV series and it is exciting to see them released on DVD.
    Vampirina: Ghoul Girls Rock! includes six of their popular Vampirina episodes all about friendship and new activities. The episodes are:
  • Vampire Weekend / The Bird Who Knew Too Much
  • The Ghoul Girls / Game Night
  • Oldie But a Ghouldie / Beast in Show
  • Vampirina Ballerina / Treasure Haunters
  • Home Scream Home
  • Countess Vee / Frights, Camera, Action!
  • The Ghoul Girls
    However, what truly makes this Vampirina: Ghoul Girls Rock! rock is that it includes SEVEN short music videos featuring Vampirina and her friends.
  • Living the Scream
  • Inner Ghoul
  • Transylvania Girls
  • Ghoul Glam
  • Boogieman Boogie
  • Everybody Scream, Everybody Howl
  • The Mummy Rap
  • The music videos are wonderful to dance to and to sing along with. However, the art takes a bit to get used to. After watching Vampirina in a more digital 3D sort of image, to watch the music videos in 2D is weird. I have seen this happen in other shows for budget purposes, it is just too bad that Vampirina did it as well.
    But don’t let the art stop anyone from watching the great DVD. The art starts to grow on you and soon the whole family will be rocking out with Vampirina and her friends and learning life lessons along the way.
    More about Vampirina: Ghoul Girls Rock!:
    Voice Cast: Isabella Crovetti as Vampirina; Lauren Graham as Oxana Hauntley; James Van Der Beek as Boris Hauntley; Wanda Sykes as Gregoria; Mitchell Whitfield as Demi; Jordan Alexa Davis as Poppy; ViviAnn Yee as Bridget; and Dee Bradley Baker as Wolfie.
    Executive Producer: Chris Nee
    Release Date: November 6, 2018
    Ratings: TV-Y (US); G (CE/CF)
    Total Run Time: Approximately 132 minutes
    Aspect Ratio: 1.78:1 Widescreen (Enhanced for 16×9 Televisions)
    Incredibles 2 is Incredibly Jack-Jack Aware
    When there is a chance for the superheroes to come out of hiding, Bob is all over it and ready to do his part….as a stay-at-home dad. Not the job he was hoping for, but worth it in order to give superheroes a positive spin in the public eye. On Nov. 6th. Incredibles 2 will be released on DVD and Blu-ray, allowing every incredible fan to see just how well Bob is at being a full time dad.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Thanks to Disney/Pixar, I received a copy of the blu-ray to review. possible SPOILERS below.
    To be honest, much of what Bob goes through when taking care of the kids is cliche and possibly overused…until Jack-Jack pops into the picture. For whatever reason, in the 2004 Incredibles movie, the Parr family never realized Jack-Jack had powers. However, they figure it out in Incredibles 2 when Jack-Jack starts disappearing and transporting from one place to another. The only way to bring him back are Num NUm cookies (recipe here).
    Incredibles 2 at this point transforms from a story about superheroes struggling for the right to fight villains and becomes a story about Jack-Jack and his crazy, teleportation, transforming, duplicating, and flying powers. There are more powers to include but who can list them all. Seriously, Jack-Jack is a container of all powers shaken together and spilled out into an unsuspecting family. Even the city wildlife isn’t safe from Jack-Jack’s awesomeness. In fact, the Raccoon never had a chance.
    There seems to be only one person that can handle Jack-Jack in all his glory and that is Edna Mode. She willingly takes the baby for the night to make him a suit to help keep the child under control, if only for a while. Disney made a short film called “Auntie Edna”, sharing just what happened while Edna babysat Jack-Jack. My nieces watched the short and thought it was hilarious. When Jack-Jack morphed into Edna and during the duplication with babies everywhere, laughter was at an all time high. All I could get out of their smiling faces was, “This is so funny” and “Can we watch it again?”
    You can check out a clip from the “Auntie Edna short here:
    Jack-Jack the Movie….I mean Incredibles 2 is fun to watch, especially with Jack-Jack so front and center. My family and I enjoyed it and we will be watching it again.
