Rugrats: Season 1, Volume 2 DVD #Giveaway and Review – Ends 3/20/2023

Rugrats: Season 1, Volume 2 will be available on DVD March 7, 2023, for the suggested retail price of $10.99. This volume contains episodes 14-25 of Season One in a 2-disc set! The DVD also includes two half-hour holiday-themed specials. Rugrats: Season 1, Volume 2 follows Tommy, Chuckie, Angelica, Susie, Phil, and Lil, and all of their friends as they continue to find themselves in a variety of situations by using their wild imaginations, including a daring outer space mission, an epic treasure hunt, a spooky Halloween party, and so much more!

I got the chance to review Rugrats: Season 1, Volume 2 and here is what I thought

Rugrats: Season 1, Volume 2 continues the Rugrats adventures of season 1. The episodes included on the two-disc set are:

  • The Werewoof Hunter
  • Traditions
  • Chuckie vs. the Vacuum / Gone Teddy Gone
  • I, Baby / Fan-gelica
  • Captain Susie / Bringing Up Daisy
  • Wedding Smashers / House Broken
  • Lucky Smudge / Our Friend Twinkle
  • Rescuing Cynthia
  • Queen Bee / Phone Alone
  • Night Crawler / Goblets & Goblins
  • House of Cardboard / Fluffy Moves In
  • Susie the Artist / A Horse is a Horse

Each episode features our favorite voice actors who are reprising their iconic roles: EG Daily (Tommy Pickles), Nancy Cartwright (Chuckie Finster), Cheryl Chase (Angelica Pickles), Cree Summer (Susie Carmichael), and Kath Soucie (Phil and Lil DeVille). As stated before, in my review of Volume 1, I find this epic!

Along with the original cast, we also get a few other famous voice overs in this episode collection. For example, in the 30-min episode, Rescuing Cynthia, Tori Kelly and Jordin Sparks guest star as Cynthia (Kelly) and Tabitha (Sparks). Of course, with such talented musicians making their debut in the Rugrats, it is only natural that we get three original songs: Cynthia is Everywhere, New Star in the Sky, and Friendship Sold Separately.

I actually enjoyed this episode with all the fun characters, colors, and music. It was Angelica’s story but still had our lovable Rugrats. I found my toes tapping to the beats, laughing at a few of the scenes, and overall, enjoying the story.

Another episode where the story is fun to watch is Goblets & Goblins. Hinting to the game of DnD, this episode has the Rugrats looking for treasure in a world where Goblins live. Time to pull out those d20s and make those initiative rolls. I have to admit I had a blast watching this one. Honestly, it isn’t a surprise that the Rugrats go a little geeky. In the original series, there were often hints to Doctor Who because the creators loved that series: i.e. the screwdriver.

Many of the episodes in this volume are very fun to watch. While this is a remake of the original babies with crazy imaginations, it does do the Rugrats justice for a new generation. With life lessons of bravery, learning, and geeky fun, it is certainly a series worth watching. A few things rustle my feathers (explained in previous reviews) but the series has some bright moments.

Insight Editions Has Released Official MINECRAFT Coloring Books!

Thanks to Insight Editions’ dedication to bringing us unique books and products that help readers and artists engage with fan-favorite characters and stories, Minecraft fans are getting two official coloring books. The first book is The Official Minecraft Coloring Adventures Book and the second book is The Official Minecraft Coloring Book: Create, Explore, Relax. Each book features different scenes to interact with as the artist colors the page in their desired colors. Both books are available now from Amazon.com (affiliate links) for the suggested retail prices of $12.99 and $10.99.

I received these two books from Insight Editions and I can’t wait to share my thoughts.

The Official Minecraft Coloring Adventures Book is geared towards kids and their love of all things Minecraft. With over 45 pages of square characters, creatures, and builds, the pages are engaging and fun to color. Inside there are Minecraft bees, axolotls, pigs, dolphins, dragons and more. Since this is a coloring book, artists can actually color the animals their rare color. For example, finding a blue axolotl in the game is very difficult, but using this book, we can color a rare blue axolotl and make it simple.

The art in this book is fantastic and truly represents the Minecraft game. With straight lines, square corners, and scenery featuring Minecraft foliage, there is no denying that this is all things Minecraft. I should make a note here that the characters in this coloring book are generic. Fans will not find Techno, Dream, Ph1lza, or any other famous Minecraft players. However, that doesn’t stop us from drawing them in there.

Because the The Official Minecraft Coloring Adventures Book is geared towards a younger audience the coloring pages have a bit of white space for ease of coloring. It also provides a bit of space to draw our own square characters and make even more detailed scenes, just as we would do in the game. It is a great opportunity to add some of our favorite players into the scene or color it as it is like the square we all are.

This book gets high marks and the 5 star rating from SKGaleana.

The second book, The Official Minecraft Coloring Book: Create, Explore, Relax, is geared towards adults. Each page features high detailed Minecraft scenes. Like many adult coloring book, these scenes have patterns with small areas to color in the line art. The pages are expertly designed featuring amazing Minecraft characters, creatures, and builds in highly stylized game topography.

Each page features square and pixel items like one would find in the Minecraft game. Only in this book, their is a repeating pattern for a higher degree of difficulty to color. Each page provides an excellent source of figures to color, repetition, and relaxation as our imaginations pours to the page through a crayon, pencil, or marker.

This book is not for a coloring noob. These crazy pages require an eye for the details. The scenes can be chaotic featuring creepers, animals, swords, and blocks. My suggestion: go slow, relax, and enjoy the process because this will be the best coloring book a Minecraft fan will ever find!

Both of these coloring books are absolutely fantastic and I will be spending hours coloring every single page. In fact, I am going to grab my favorite set of coloring pencils and begin the fun and relaxation excursion through the world of Minecraft.

The Smurfs: Season 1 Volume 3 DVD Review and #Giveaway! – Ends 2/14/2023

Our little blue friends are back in thir all-new DVD release The Smurfs: Season 1, Volume 3 set to be released from Paramount Home Entertainment and Nickelodeon Home Entertainment on January 31, 2023 for the suggested retail price of $10.99, which you can preorder from Amazon.com (affiliate link). Filled with our blue friends, evil wizards, pranks, games, and celebrations, this DVD continues The Smurfs first season as male and female Smurfs learn to get along and work together.

I got the chance to review this DVD and here is what I thought. NOTE: SPOILERS BELOW.

In this new volume of season 1, the Smurfs play games and pranks, celebrate mother’s day, make new friends, escape Gargamel, and much more. Although, escaping Gargamel isn’t a new theme because we all know the wanna-be wizard is always chasing our blue friends. The theme hasn’t changed much since the 1980s when fans first saw their favorite blue characters on the big screen. I have to admit I am happy about that. To change Gargamel would change the Smurfs. I don’t mind the new characters, the new art, or even adding female Smurfs, but to make Gargamel not mean and nasty would be a gross misconduct. Thankfully, Gargamel is just as mean as nasty as before.

Of course, there is more to The Smurfs than escaping Gargamel. We have epic small story lines as characters learn to adapt, work together, and keep their community running peacefully. This DVD comes with eight episodes featuring 15 stories. The episodes are:

  • The Smurfs Show
  • Smurfboards / Monkey See, Monkey Do
  • Flying Ace / Lab Assistant
  • Order of Merit / Smurfy Mother’s Day!
  • Leaping Lizards / Cover Story
  • Papa Times Two / Fake News
  • You’re Fired! / Mirror, Mirror on the Armoire
  • Smurfing Places / Poet Slam

A couple of my favorite episodes are Fake News and Leaping Lizards.
In Fake News, Jokey and Poet print a news story about a stone monster that kills Smurfs. It causes a panic in the Smurf village. To calm everyone down Jokey and Poet have to come clean by telling everyone that they lied in order to get their fellow Smurfs to read the paper. They learn, as does the audience, that the truth should be printed and not lies. I wonder if our news stations have seen this episode yet…hahaha

Another fantastic episode is Leaping Lizards, which focuses on Vanity, not just the Smurf, but the actual feeling. Trying to be beautiful, Vanity tries to remove a zit. However, when he takes a lotion from Papa Smurf to try to magically get rid of the horrible blemish, the magic goes wrong, and Vanity turns himself into a lizard. At first, this it is awful because he is hideous, breaths fire, and is a nuisance for all the Smurfs in the village. Eventually, he leaves the village to be alone. Smurfette and Hefty try to find Vanity, but hey get captured by Gargamel (big surprise there). Vanity, realize just how useful he can be and saves them by burning Gargamel and his cat. It ends with the realization that looks aren’t everything. It is a wonderful lesson for the audience.

Gargamel, the characters, and the fantastic stories, in my opinion, make this collection 5 stars. They keep true to our beloved classic Smurfs but feature new stories and characters for a new generation.

Launch Asteroids at The Earth With a Fun Web App

Want to destroy a city with an asteroid in a virtual simulation? Look no further! I just discovered one of the coolest web apps that one can find online. It’s called Asteroid Launcher and it does just as the title states, you get to launch asteroids anywhere on Earth! As you can see in the picture above, Seattle never had a chance. hahaha

What I find really neat is that the app also relays a ton of information about the impact. You can discover the size of the crater caused by the impact with information about how much energy would be released from the impact. The app also states how often an impact that size happens on the earth.

The app shares the size of the fireball that would explode out of the impact, who would be in the path, how many people it would effect, and even what would happen to the trees around the area. The 1000 foot asteroid I sent to Seattle would have created a 12 mile wide fireball. Now that is insane!

Next, the app states how far the shockwave would travel after impact. How many people would perish, where it would extend, and how many structures would collapse due to the shockwave. In the case of my Seattle asteroid, All building within 80 miles would collapse. Washington isn’t looking so hot at this point.

My Seattle asteroid would also cause wind speeds higher than an EF5 tornado, knocking down all the trees within 107 miles. So even though the crater is 7.4 miles wide, the damage around the crater would be substantial miles from the impact due to the fireball, shockwave, and winds.

And if all of that wasn’t enough to wipe half of Washington State off the map, their would be massive earthquakes caused by the impact. And if we are to believe the theory of “enough energy can cause other fault lines to shake”, this could be a devastating impact for the entire west coast as the Cascadia and the San Andreas faults shake. Yikes.

With all of this information, I think we can safely say, let’s not have a 1000 foot iron asteroid hit Seattle any time soon.

So how can you try this web app out? Simply head over to Asteroid Launcher and begin your journey. It is very easy to use and the information about the impact is fun to read and learn.

How to use Asteroid Launcher:

  1. Go to Asteroid Launcher
  2. Select the type of asteroid (Iron, stone, carbon, comet, or gold)
  3. Select place on the map you wish to destroy with an asteroid
  4. On the right, select the size, speed, and angle of impact by moving the black bars
  5. Be sure to zoom ot a bit to see the full scale of the impact
  6. Launch the Asteroid and watch the impact

  • First Con-tact
  • Time Amok
  • A Moral Star, Part 1
  • A Moral Star, Part 2

I got the chance to review Star Trek: Prodigy: Season 1 Volume 1 and here is what I thought.

Get ready for Star Trek from the eyes of a young crew travelling the stars with guidance from one of my favorite captains, Janeway, as a hologram. Like Voyager, Dal, Gwyn, Jankom Pogm, Zero. Rok-Tahk, and Murf make their way towards the Alpha Quadrant all while trying to keep the ship in one piece, escaping a time traveling Vau N’Akat known as The Diviner, and trying to work together to make something of their cadet Starfleet life.

Star Trek: Prodigy is meant for a young audience with the characters learning morals and going through growing pains. The show teaches working together, empathy, the importance of research, listening to those who can help, and more. But while these are common themes throughout the show, adults will find there is a lot for them as well. Star Trek: Prodigy may look like a kids show, but it feels very adult. We get fantastic character growth, wonderful voice acting, and tons of easter eggs from past series that fans will find. For example, in Terror Firma, did anyone catch the shape of the Exocomps? I know I was excited to see them!

We also get a wonderful antagonist who is bent on stopping the Federation from meeting his people on Solum in an effort to stop a world ending civil war. The Diviner travels back in time, through a wormhole, and searches out the Protostar, the ship our crazy crew just-so-happens to be flying. It is a long arc to the series and one the audience will enjoy. Personally, I have always liked a “bad guy” that believed he was doing good. It creates a well rounded character.

The art, they stories, and the easter eggs makes Star Trek: Prodigy Season 1, Volume 1 and amazing series and fun to watch. I love the character developments, the amazing colors, and even the morals the show teaches. It’s fantastic that it caters to both kids and adults. I give Star Trek: Prodigy Season 1, Volume 1 five stars!
