They’re creepy and they’re kooky, their new movie is certainly mysterious and spooky, some may find it a little ooky as The Addams Family 2 movie hits theaters and On Demand today! To celebrate the start of the Halloween month, MGM brings us the most deranged family of the season staring Morticia, Gomez, Uncle Fester, Wednesday, and Pugsley Addams. Unfortunately for this family, growing up is spreading the family apart. In an effort to create wonderfully devilish family memories and reinstate the family bond, Gomez and Morticia plan a family vacation road trip around the United States. Their adventure is nothing short of monstrous as they make their way through the States with hilarious family activities. Catch The Addams Family 2 in theaters today (October 1st) or On Demand.

I got the chance to review The Addams Family 2 movie ahead of the theatrical release. I am so excited to share my thoughts about this animated film.

I would love to say that The Addams Family 2 movie is easy to explain, but honestly, there are so many off shoot stories, that it keeps the audience wondering what will happen next. From explosions to True Love, it is a swirling waterfall experience.

The first story we start with is Wednesday Addams and her feelings of not belonging to her own family. The constant adoration, lack of scientific prowess, and their need to give undesirable hugs leads her to feel that, perhaps, she is not an Addams. This feeling is only strengthened when a scientist, Doctor Strange, claims to be Wednesday’s dad due to a kooky incident at the hospital leading to a switched at birth scenario.

The second story circles around Pugsley and his inability to attract the opposite sex. With Uncle Fester’s help and his self-published book on how to attract the opposite sex, they both set out to make Pugsley the perfect Addams man. As you can imagine, advice from Uncle Fester is not always the best. It leads to a bit of heartache for our dear little Pugsley, which can only be lessoned by massive and epically musical explosions.

Story number three centers around Gomez and Morticia and their fear of loosing their family bonds. In an effort to strengthen their family connections, Gomez and Morticia decide the entire family will take a family vacation. Using the most amazing motorhome that is bigger on the inside, they follow a trail through the United States that will take them to some of the most iconic events in history, such as barrels over Niagara Falls, Sleepy Hallow, The Alamo, and Miami.

I could keep going with all the off shoot stories such as the weird follow through with Uncle Fester, the house party with grandma, the scientific breakthrough with Wednesday, or even the weird Lurch and Gorilla guy connection. There are so many weird off shoots that this movie keeps you guessing and if you don’t pay attention, you will miss them. In fact, I can’t wait to own the movie so that I can watch it again and see what I missed.

Along with the immediate Addams Family relatives, we also get to see how wickedly cool Cousin It can be, how the Thing has the ability to drive, and how grandma is just a little insane in her own way. They all collide in this epic feature that ends with a shocking revelation. This revelation is something no one, up to this point, has ever heard in the history of Addams Family movies. In fact, it shocked the soda out of me. Far more strange than anything else in this film, and there is A LOT of strange, this revelation made me see Cousin It very differently. Hint, you get to hear him sing. I am not sure if I like it yet, maybe I just don’t like change, however, it is there, it is loud, and it is…different.

Putting the craziness of Cousin It aside, I did like all of the small touches that make The Addams Family 2 such a delight to watch. From personal rain clouds to the design of the Addams Family Camper, each scene, design, and object is well placed, well thought out, and adds depth to the movie. The camper is one of my favorite objects. It sort of reminds me of the Tardis and how it is obviously bigger on the inside. I want one of these campers in my life. Not only is it epically spooky, it has way more character than a standard Winnebago. I think this camper would make any family trip especially strange.

From the Addams to the camper, this movie features fun for the whole family. My family was in an almost constant state of laughter. I do believe our favorite scene involved the Grand Canyon and Pugsley’s small addition to the Addams Family memories. I also thought the Miss Jalapeño contest was hilarious. Simply picture frilly Wednesday and you have a nightmare scenario. Oh yes, there may be a few death threats in Gomez’s future.

I will make a note here that parents should watch this before they let their kids view the Addams Family 2 movie. There is a bit of  rude humor, violence, and language, which is to be expected from the world’s most deranged family. Some of these moments may not be suitable for certain kids and/or families. I always suggest a preview before showcasing the film to the whole family.

Even with the rude humor, violence, and language, I loved the film and give it five stars. It grabs the audience attention, stays true to the Addams Family characters, and has so much going on it is impossible to be bored. There are even several surprises along the way to keep the audience on their toes. Great job MGM!
