Incredibles 2 is Incredibly Jack-Jack Aware

When there is a chance for the superheroes to come out of hiding, Bob is all over it and ready to do his part….as a stay-at-home dad. Not the job he was hoping for, but worth it in order to give superheroes a positive spin in the public eye. On Nov. 6th. Incredibles 2 will be released on DVD and Blu-ray, allowing every incredible fan to see just how well Bob is at being a full time dad.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Thanks to Disney/Pixar, I received a copy of the blu-ray to review. possible SPOILERS below.

To be honest, much of what Bob goes through when taking care of the kids is cliche and possibly overused…until Jack-Jack pops into the picture. For whatever reason, in the 2004 Incredibles movie, the Parr family never realized Jack-Jack had powers. However, they figure it out in Incredibles 2 when Jack-Jack starts disappearing and transporting from one place to another. The only way to bring him back are Num NUm cookies (recipe here).

Incredibles 2 at this point transforms from a story about superheroes struggling for the right to fight villains and becomes a story about Jack-Jack and his crazy, teleportation, transforming, duplicating, and flying powers. There are more powers to include but who can list them all. Seriously, Jack-Jack is a container of all powers shaken together and spilled out into an unsuspecting family. Even the city wildlife isn’t safe from Jack-Jack’s awesomeness. In fact, the Raccoon never had a chance.

There seems to be only one person that can handle Jack-Jack in all his glory and that is Edna Mode. She willingly takes the baby for the night to make him a suit to help keep the child under control, if only for a while. Disney made a short film called “Auntie Edna”, sharing just what happened while Edna babysat Jack-Jack. My nieces watched the short and thought it was hilarious. When Jack-Jack morphed into Edna and during the duplication with babies everywhere, laughter was at an all time high. All I could get out of their smiling faces was, “This is so funny” and “Can we watch it again?”

You can check out a clip from the “Auntie Edna short here:

Jack-Jack the Movie….I mean Incredibles 2 is fun to watch, especially with Jack-Jack so front and center. My family and I enjoyed it and we will be watching it again.

    DIY Googly-Eye Monster Rocks Halloween Craft

    Halloween is just around the corner. Time for the spooks, ghouls, jack-o-lanterns, and monsters to come out from hiding and show their faces to the world. Well, some of them can. Monster Rocks still have to get their faces on….literally. It isn’t easy being a cute little monster and there has to be time for the beautification process.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    At this point I know some of you are asking a simple question…What is a Monster Rock? Don’t worry, I had the same question when I was told about these little creatures. Turns out the answer is simple. A Monster rock is…a rock. Well it’s actually a painted rock with Monster Googly Eyes. They are also extremely fun to make and adorable.

    The beautification of a monster rock isn’t hard, it just takes a little time for the paint and glue to dry. This provides the perfect opportunity to help kids hone the skill of patience. The wait might be like watching paint dry But Monster Rocks are worth every second.

    To make Monster Rocks you will need:

  • Rocks
  • Paint
  • Monster Googly Eyes
  • Glue
  • Step 1: Find the perfect rocks that will make the best monsters. These rocks can be in any shap you wish, the weirder the better.

    NOTE: Be sure you are allowed to remove the rocks if you find them outside of your backyard.

    Step 2: Wash the rocks of all debris. They need to be clean of dirt, dust and other particals so that the paint will stick to the rocks. Of course, after they are painted feel free to add grass, moss, leaves or other items to make hair, arms, or whatever you can imagine.

    Step 3: Paint the rocks. Have the crafters choose their favorite colors to paint the rocks. A hot pink monster is just as cool and a blue monster.

    Step 4: Let the Paint dry. One of the hardest things to do is wait for paint to dry. This is a great opportunity to hone the skill of patience. Maybe go for a walk, collect fall leaves, or carve pumpkins to pass the time.

    Step 5: Once the paint is dry, it is time to glue on the eyes. Whether it is one eye or multiple eyes, make them googly and make them monstrous.

    Step 6: Wait for the glue to dry. Oh snap, another waiting game. Depending on the glue this can last minutes to over night. Whatever the case, the eyes need to be stuck on tight before they can be little monsters.

    Step 7: draw a mouth or nose. If the rock monsters need noses or mouths, now is the time. Take a marker and draw them now.

    This finishes the Monster Rocks and they are ready for display!

    Printable Follow-Me-Eyes Ghost DIY Paper Craft

    I’ll admit it, I didn’t start decorating for Halloween until this last weekend. Sometimes life, and the forgetful brain, get in the way. I had that “Oh No” moment when I walked into a store and saw their Halloween display towering down at me with laughing animatronics, creepy ghosts, and nasty spiders. Oh the eight-;egged creatures of doom, those are never allowed in my Halloween display. nope nope nope.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    On the plus side, I didn’t have the Halloween brain fart last until Oct 30 where I could have been scurrying around in a desperate need to find trick or treat candy and some pull-together costume made from pop cans and a green cardboard box (recycling hahahaha). I have time to be a little creative with the family. So what did I do? Well I sought shelter in my Photoshop program and immediately began to create DIY decorations.

    This year I am going simplistically cute with a small factor of creepy with my fun #FollowMeEyes creations. This time, instead of being Cubeecrafts with the Cubee-Follow-Me-Eyes, the printable Halloween Decoration is a Ghost Puppet.

    These Ghost puppets can go almost anywhere.

  • Display them on a shelf so when people walk by they are watched
  • Cut the ghosts off their bases and hang them on the wall
  • place them on festive tables for that added touch of cute creepiness
  • Or whatever you find fun and decorative
  • The Ghost Puppet/Decoration is pretty simple to create and will be fun for the whole family. Simply follow the instructions below. Be sure adults do all the cutting.

    Instructions:

    1. Print on cardstock
    2. Cut out the ghost along the outer solid line, be sure not to detach from base.
    3. Wrap the base around to form a circle and glue together.
      The circle should form behind the ghost.

    4. EYES:
      • cut out the desired eye rectangle along the outer boarder.
      • fold on the lines closest to the eyes. It should partly cover the eyes
      • Fold on the next line outward so that it forms a zigzag. (see image for help)
      • Glue each tab to either side of the eyes behind the ghost
      • Trim the excess
    5. Display Ghost and Enjoy

    Vampirina and Demi Sugar Cookies Recipe

    image from Disney Family

    As the new kid in town, Vampirina is learning how to make new friends with those who are just a bit different than herself. This wonderful Disney Junior cartoon teaches kids that while we may be different, that doesn’t have to keep us apart. We can be friends and respect each others differences.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Vampirina has certainly become a very popular addition to Disney Junior’s line up, with parents and children enjoying the quirky scenarios and life lessons. I enjoyed the cartoon enough to make an epic Printable Party Pack featuring Vampirina and her family. Disney Junior has also created their own activities to share. Click the images below to learn more about the activities and party printables.

    In addition to these wonderful party printables and activities, Disney Junior has released a fun cookie recipe. Display Vamipirina and Demi as delicious treats for any party, including Halloween. Simply follow the recipe below and/or go to the recipe on the Disney Junior’s website.

    Directions

      Download and print Vampirina and Demi cookie template (see below).

      SUGAR COOKIES:

    1. Preheat the oven to 350° F.
    2. In the bowl of a stand mixer, use the paddle attachment to beat the butter and sugar on medium-high speed until combined. Then beat in the egg, vanilla extract, baking powder, and salt.
    3. Slowly, add the flour and mix until dough is formed.
    4. Roll out dough about 6mm thick with a rolling pin. Cut out cookies using a pairing knife and the Vampirina and Demi template.
    5. Line cookie sheets with baking paper. Space out cookies on sheets so they have enough room to rise. Then bake for 6-8 minutes.
    6. Allow cookies to cool completely before decorating with royal icing.

      image from Disney Family
    7. ROYAL ICING:

    8. Beat all ingredients until icing forms peaks (7-10 minutes at low speed with a stand mixer).
    9. For stiffer icing (used for outlining), use 1 tablespoon less water. For the thinned (flood) royal icing add an additional teaspoon of water at a time until you reach a good consistency. Separate frosting in bowls to mix in different colors with food coloring. Place in frosting bags, and cut a small hole in the corners.

      image from Disney Family
    10. Before decorating the cookies, use an edible food marker to outline some of Vee and Demi’s features.
    11. Next, decorate them with icing. First start with the main features and allow them to set for a couple of hours. Then add all the details.

    12. After decorating, allow the icing to set overnight

    Freaky Friday Mother & Daughter Spa Day

    A brand new rendition of Freaky Friday was released Sept 25, and this time it’s a Musical. While there are several different versions of Freaky Friday out there, the creators of this newest form decided to go vastly different and create it with a cast that can sing. With the popularity of musicals, why not.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Those who know the theme of Freaky Friday know that it usually features a mom and a daughter who are unable to get along and can’t see life from the other’s perspective. Some magical wooshing happens and they eventually switch places. Thus the movie follows their lives as each discovers that their mother/daughter’s life may not be as easy as originally thought.

    While this is a classic comedy, it is fun to watch with the girls and sing along to the songs. In fact, Thanks to Disney, My Sister and nieces made a day of it by having an awesome spa day and watching Freaky Friday. What a great way to spend time with the girls!

    To pull off this fantastic mother/daughter spa day you will need:

  • Freaky Friday: A New Musical
  • Large Carrying Tote Bag
  • 2 Face Masks
  • Lip Mask
  • 2 Bath Bombs
  • 2 Lip Balms
  • Manicure Kit
  • 2 Nail Polish sets
  • Lotion
  • Be sure the tote bag will hold all the spa day items so that everything is in one place and can be grabbed at a moments notice. There is no need to have a stressful search for something that is supposed to inspire relaxation.

    Now that you have a bag of holdings and all the items are inside it is time for that much anticipated spa day.

    Have a relaxing bath with some fun bath bomb bombs, use a face mask to exfoliate, make those nails shine, and keep those lips glowing. Then you and your daughter(s) sit down and watch Freaky Friday. Trust me when I say, the daughters will love the pampering as much as you do. 🙂 I mean just look at my happy nieces.
