From now until the end of September, Kellogg is giving away books with their new Feeding Reading Program! You read that right…FREE BOOKS! And the best part is, we can choose which book from 125 titles in three different reading levels! On top of that, there are no shipping charges! This is a win all around.
Kellogg’s Feeding Reading program will offer parents, teachers, and kids fun ways to fuel minds and bodies for back to school success. And by teaming up with Penguin Random House, we’re building kids’ reading confidence and empowering young imaginations.
Getting the free books is fairly easy. Simply buy participating merchandise from now to the end of September, upload the receipt with the qualifying purchases (each receipt must be uploaded separately and within 30 days of purchase, no later than 10/30/20), and wait for the credits to be added to your account. Once the credits are added, select the books you desire and have them shipped to your home. There is, however, a limit of 10 books per participant. See Kellogg’s Family Rewards for more details.
I tested this process out and it works! Check out the Mad Libs books my family gets to enjoy!
After I tried out the process I have a few tips.
You will need an account on Kellogg’s Family Rewards website. But this is actually very awesome with all the freebies they have! On their site, under their rewards tab, they have 16 printables featuring coloring pages, games, and books.
Make sure you upload your receipt in the right area. There are two areas where you can upload your receipt. One will allow you to earn family reward points and the other earns you book credits. You can upload the same receipt to both.
The credit number at the top of the screen states how many credits you have earned, not how many you have to spend. You have to keep track of how many you have spent and how many you have yet to spend. We have to do math…nice one Kellogg’s.
Follow these tips and the instructions provided by Kellogg’s and you will be enjoying books in no time. On a side note, if your family doesn’t need or want the books, it is easy to donate to a school or library of your choice! All it takes is clicking DONATE instead of KEEP when you order the book.
We give Kellogg’s Feeding Reading program an A+! What a great way to celebrate back o school! Thank You Kellogg’s!

Do you like scary stories? Because tomorrow, the reboot to one of my all time favorite shows when I was a kid, will be released on DVD! Are You Afraid of the Dark? will creep into people’s homes, enticing them with a fun scary story. But what would happen if the stories we love so much were actually based on reality? The Midnight Society may just learn the answer to that question.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I received the epic chance to review this movie! Actually, when they asked me if I was willing to watch the new reboot and write about it, I jumped at the chance. Are You Afraid of the Dark? started my love for creature features and other scary movies. I had to see if the reboot did the original justice.
NOTE: SPOILERS BELOW
In the words of Akiko, a member of the Midnight Society, “Clowns Suck.” In fact, most scary movies that involve clowns…I don’t watch. Ever since I watched Killer Clowns from Outer Space, clowns have been a no-go. However, because this is an Are You Afraid of the Dark? mini-series/movie, I put my irrational yet fully rational fear aside and watched the film. Ironically, the other members of my family had me watch the movie first before they would even sneak a peek. There is nothing like being the guinea pig. Again, in the words of Akiko, “I hate clowns.”
On the plus side, the amount of clowns depicted in the Are You Afraid Of The Dark? mini series is minimal. I mean they are there, they are creepy (like the one without eyes…shiver), but they are also not that involved in the story. In fact, my fear for clowns quickly dwindled as Mr. Tophat took to the stage. So many scorpions…man eating scorpions. And I don’t mean large scorpions that eat people, I literally mean Mr. Tophat eats a freaking scorpion!
Scorpions…why did it have to be scorpions? Here is another of my irrational yet rational fears along with spiders and bugs. I could have lived without insects or arachnids featured in Mr. Tophat’s story. To be honest, I never really learned of their significance. They seem to be there just to creep the audience out. Since they were so prevalent, I really wish there was more about them, such as: why does Mr. Tophat eat them, why are they controlled by him, and what is the meaning of the scorpion coin? I guess I should be thankful that there weren’t more creepy crawlies, I was already squirming in my seat.
Although the ambiguity of the scorpion has left me with questions, the mini series itself is awesome. The creators continued the love for the original with a nod to the original music. It brought back so many creepy nostalgic moments of watching the 1990s series. We also have The Midnight Society and the iconic beginning to every story, “Submitted for the approval of the Midnight Society.” When the fire blazed and this statement echoed through the forest, the audience knew the scary story would begin. However, with this reboot, once the fire goes out, the scary stuff just gets worse.
When the story becomes reality, the Midnight Society featuring Gavin, Akiko, Louise, Graham, and newbie Rachel must find a way to save their friends before it’s too late, even if that means they have to take a trip to the state of potatoes, Idaho. Yes, Idaho. I wouldn’t think Idaho would be the most scary state there is, but if a spooky carnival comes to town, I suppose any state can be scary. I do find it neat that the awesome showdown takes place in such an unused state in cinematic movies.
Epically, the showdown at the Carnival of Doom in Idaho is not mere potatoes. It sheds light on a dark past and an unfortunate prediction. While the whole flashback is fairly predictable, it does bring understanding to Mr. Tophat’s backstory. And let me just say…If you don’t figure it out while you watch Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Mr. Tophat is craaaazy….crazy scary.
Which leads me to the info about this crazy scary mini-series. For families with children, this series is not rated. While that may make some think it is safe for a younger audience, I highly advise against it. There are many scary moments, zombies, creepy clowns, kidnapped children, and dark forces at work. This movie also messes with our sense of reality. Make sure the child watching can tell the difference and handle intense situations like those in psycho-thrillers. I would say keep this at tween to teen. Common Sense Media suggests ages 11 and up.
A good rule of thumb is parents should screen the movie and decide if their child can handle such a film. Trust me, as an adult, you will enjoy the film. It gave me a fright, which is what Are You Afraid of the Dark? is all about. If you like scary stories you will enjoy this one. I give it 5 stars.

Guillermo del Toro continues the Tales of Arcadia in a brand new series, Wizards, now on Netflix. The 10 episode epic story of Wizards Tales from Arcadia has sword fights, Trolls, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, and magic! (wink) It features Merlin’s apprentice, Douxie, who joins Arcadia’s heroes on a time-bending adventure in Camelot, where conflict is brewing between the human, troll, and magical worlds.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I will admit….I binge watched the entire 10 episodes in one sleepless night…no regrets.. I couldn’t stop. It was everything I hoped it would be with Jim, Claire, and all the rest of the cast coming back (including a friend from 3 Below) in one spellbound story. I want to say so much, release a ton of spoilers, and go through each episode in detail. But that would make this post a novel. It would be faster to watch the series yourself hahaha. I will say this, it is well worth the watch.
Of course, there are a few things one should know going in. This season is a bit darker than the rest. Be aware: death is no stranger here.. We have a suffering Troll-Jim who is facing the loss of himself, Claire who is trying to save her boyfriend, Merlin who wants to save King Arthur and the world, Douxie who would like to do one thing right, and Steve….oh Steve…Steve is the one and only plucky comic relief.
Humor is Steve’s domain. This buttsnack teasing, in fear fleeing, creep slaying knight may actually be one of the true heroes of the story. I shiver when I say this, but somehow in a realm of wrong, Steve does it right. He is also highly capable of taking a hit, making him exponentially helpful in battle. There is a scene where Sir Lancelot signs Steve up for a fight to try and win the right to take a Troll’s life. As the audience, we know this won’t end well, and we are soon proven right. Steve becomes the one hit wonder..meaning he takes the hit and is down for the count.
Thanks to Steve, the intense story line has a break here and there. However, he doesn’t take away from the drama as we learn how people are multi-dimentinal. A bad guy is not just a bad guy, there are reasons they end up making the decisions they do. In Wizards we learn about the choices each character takes and the journey they take due to those choices. Morgana,, King Arthur, and even Gunmar all end up at Killahead Bridge, and we get to learn how and why. We also learn that nothing is set in stone; our choices can mold our future. Surprise! There is a moral!
I give the series 5 stars and encourage all fans of Tales of Arcadia to watch it. Although, I do suggest watching it over a few days and not all in one night like me.
As a side note: TrollHunters Rise of the Titans has been announced to be coming soon in 2021. It will be a film that will tie up loose ends and perhaps end the Tales of Arcadia…tears with excitement. I have complicated feelings about this hahaha
Submitted for the approval of the Midnight Society, I call this story the “Are You Afraid Of The Dark DVD Giveaway.”
Starting in the early 90s, Are You Afraid of The Dark quickly became an extraordinary success, earning several awards and gaining many fans. I just so happen to be one of those fans. I can remember tuning into the nick channel to watch the next scary episode. I will admit, I had a few sleepless nights.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I can remember an episode called “The Tale of the Hatching” (not included in this DVD). Two kids, Jasmine and Augie, were left at a boarding school while their parents went on a work trip. While at the school, Jasmine and Augie discovered a weird dessert called “Spunge”. This dessert somehow turned the kids into mindless robots as they cared for alien eggs. Since Jasmine and Augie never ate the spunge, they were privy to all the events happening below the school. This episode is like a kid version of Alien and it freaked me out,. It took me a while to actually eat sponge cake again. Of course, this episode and many others may also be the reason I love the Alien series and other scifi films and television..
The new Are You Afraid Of The Dark, coming to DVD Aug 11, is a mini-series adaptation of the original series. The three-part limited series follows members of an entirely new Midnight Society, who tell a terrifying tale of the Carnival of Doom and its evil ringmaster Mr. Top Hat. Unfortunately for the new Midnight Society, they witness the shocking story come frightfully to life and prepare for an adventure beyond their wildest nightmares.
Are You Afraid of the Dark? Episodes:
Part One: Submitted For Approval
Part Two: Opening Night
Part Three: Destroy All Tophats
Along with the re-make, this DVD also includes classic episodes from the original TV series! The episodes are:
Season 1, Episode 2: The Tale of Laughing in the Dark A boy ignores a clown’s ghost in an amusement park exhibit.
Season 4, Episode 8: The Tale of the Ghastly Grinner Ethan and Hooper must stop an evil comic-book character from destroying the world with ghastly giggling.
Season 5, Episode 1: The Tale of the Dead Man’s Float A lifeguard-turned-janitor attempts to vanquish a sinister spirit lurking around the school pool.
Most of these deal with clowns…I will be keeping all the lights on while watching these classic episodes. They may be old, but they are still scary. hahahahaha
Are You Afraid of The Dark Remake will be available on DVD Aug 11, 2020/ If you want a chance to win this DVD, use the rafflecopter form below. Earn entries by tweeting, commenting, checking out pinterest, following on facebook, and more! Many will enter only 1 will win! Good Luck!
