4th of July Strawberry and Stripes Cake Decor

Show pride in our country and celebrate our independence day with Orientaltrading.com’s beautiful 4th of July Strawberry and Stripes Cake. This delicious DIY cake decoration has strawberries and blueberries arranged to capture the essence of the American Flag represents. While it may not contain all 50 stars or all 13 stripes, it will give off that 4th of July independence day vibe with colors of red, white and blue. Add it to your next barbecue for a delicious dessert and a wonderful conversation piece.

Trivia: What do the 50 stars and 13 stripes on the American Flag represent? The answer is at the bottom of this blog post.

Strawberry and Stripes Cake Recipe

This recipe doesn’t include a cake recipe. It requires an already baked 9 x 13 inch rectangular cake. Below are the ingredients and items needed to create the Strawberry and Stripes Cake. Follow the instructions on how to decorate the cake for best results. However, this is a DIY project and anything similar can be done. For example, replace the strawberries with another red fruit, like raspberries, and still pull off the American Flag image. It can then be called Raspberries and Stripes Cake. Cherries or red grapes could also make a great substitution.

Strawberry and Stripes Cake Decoration Instructions
Items and ingredients needed:

  • A rectangular 9 x 13 cake (your choice of flavors)
  • Cake Tray
  • White Whipped topping
  • 48 blueberries + extra for the base
  • 36 strawberry halves

    • The amount of berries listed is a general estimate. The amount of blueberries and strawberries is relative to the size of the berries. If the berries are small you will need more of them to complete the Strawberry and Stripes Cake flag.

    Directions

      1. Frost the entire cake with the White Whipped Topping.
      2. In the Upper left hand corner place 48 blueberries in a rectangle. Place 8 blueberries across and place 6 down, evenly spaced apart (see image).
      3. Start at the end of the top line of the blueberries. Place strawberry halves down into the frosting in a straight line across the cake. Conitnue this patter right below the first line of strawberries to form the stripes of the American flag. there will be about 6 lines depending on the size of the strawberries.
      4. Add extra blueberries around the sides of the cake to add a little festive decor..
      5. Display and enjoy!

    Trivia: What do the 50 stars and 13 stripes on the American Flag represent?
    Answer: the 50 stars represent the 50 states that make up the United States of America. The 13 stripes that alternate in red and white represent the first 13 colonies.

    A New Dragon is to Debut on DreamWorks Dragons: Race to the Edge

    Starting June 26th, 2015 Netflix is releasing a whole new How to Train Your Dragon series called “Dragons: Race to the Edge.” Hiccup, toothless, Astrid, Fishlegs, Snotlout, Tuffnut, and Ruffnut will discover new artifacts and new dragons including one called Death Song. Personally I think the Death Song Looks like a beautiful butterfly. That is until I learned what the beautiful monstrosity is capable of…shiver.

    Check out the brand new sneak peek of the, “Death Song” and its horrific abilities. No, it has nothing to do with oily fish and bad mutton and everything to do with trapping dragons in an amber rock substance. When a mysterious song lures the dragons (and their riders!) to a remote island they find themselves in fatal danger.     The most evil cast of all time is coming to Disney Channel July 31st, 2015. Descendants features the offspring of some of the most iconic Disney villains including Maleficent, The Evil Queen, Cruella De Vil and Jafar. These infamous Disney villains have all been imprisoned on the Isle of the Lost, but their children are given a special opportunity to attend school with the children of the Disney heroes. The question is, will the evil offspring attempt to be good, or will being evil flow through their veins like those of their parents?

    4th of July Hot Dog Fireworks Recipe

    In 1777, one year after the United States of America’s gained their independence, Americans celebrated with fireworks decorating the sky. imagine the awe in Philadelphia as beautiful explosions lit the sky in magical colors of red, white and blue. This tradition has been part of our celebrations from the beginning, and today many 4th of July events are marked with an amazing choreographed fireworks display.

    The fireworks display doesn’t have to remain in the sky. It can also take place on a table at our next barbecue. Orientaltrading.com shares a cute new recipe called “Hot Dog Fireworks” that will help bring the joy of fireworks to the table as fun food art.

    This recipe takes an ordinary hot dog and makes it extraordinary. It is simple to create and takes very few ingredients to make.

    Hot dog Firework Recipe

    Hot Dog Fireworks
    Items and ingredients needed:

  • Patriotic cupcake wrappers with toothpicks
  • Skewers
  • Favorite hot dogs
  • Pillsbury bread-stick dough or your favorite bread-stick dough
  • Favorite cheese cut into triangles (see image)

    • Directions

      1. Wrap each hot dog with the bread-stick dough and bake it according to instructions
      2. Turn a cupcake wrapper upside down and slide a skewer through the wrapper
      3. When the hot dog and bread are fully cooked, carefully skewer the hot dog and slide the cupcake wrapper to the bottom of the hot dog.
      4. With the toothpicks place a triangular piece of cheese on the tip of the hot dog.
      5. Display upright to look like fireworks.

    Don’t forget to grab skewers and cupcake wrappers with toothpicks to complete the “Hot Dog Fireworks” recipe. The Skewers allow them to be displayed standing up and make for ease when eating them at a large BBQ. The Cupcake wrappers help with keeping hands clean while eating the “Hot Dog Fireworks” and add that extra touch to the design. Here are the two items I suggest from Amazon.com:

    Super Dad Teddy Bear Cubeecraft

    Faster than a speeding bullet! More powerful than a locomotive! Able to leap tall buildings at a single bound! Super Dad is here to save the day in all his Teddy Bear cuteness just in time for Father’s Day!

    Using the iconic colors of Superman, I created this Super Dad teddy Bear cubeecraft to embody the theme of super hero. The teddy bear features a Superman costume complete with curly cue. The only difference is the insignia is a D for super dad instead of an S. The Super Dad Teddy bear wears a Red cape, blue suit, red shorts and a yellow belt.

    Super Dad Teddy Bear is free to download, simply click the image below, right click, and select save as. You can then select a location on your computer. Then all you have to do is print and create! I do however, take donations. It helps keep the hobby alive. Any Amount helps

    To Build the Cubeecraft:
    Materials needed:
    Printer
    Card stock
    scissors
    craft knife

    To make:

    1. Cut out each item along the outer black lines.
    2. Cut along the white on each tab using the x-acto knife
    3. Cut along each red line using the x-acto knife
    4. Cut along the white by the ears
    5. Fold along each inner solid black line and slide each tab into the slots created with an x-acto knife to form a cube of the head, body, arms, and feet
    6. Slide the arms through the red slots on either side of the body.
    7. Slide the feet through the red slots at the base of the body.
    8. Slide the now completed body through the red lots of the head.

    It is done. To download this cubeecraft click the links below and save them to your computer. Then print and create!
